What produce/ingredients did you buy or obtain today (2024)?

We had to get some bottled water yesterday and a prescription that had to be ordered for Craig that finally came in. I decided to get chicken stock because they always seem to run out of the brand I prefer around holidays, and Craig was worried they would run out of the stuffing mix he likes, so we got a bag of that. I prefer scratch with country bread and cornbread, but he likes Pepperidge Farm cubes, so we just make his now. Slowly but surely getting T-Day food bought.

Having a little family celebration next Saturday.
It was ‘Freemancipation’ ie the end of my year handling my mums affairs and handing over to my brothers for their turn on the 5th Nov. Had to delay party time due to some unforeseen events.
But it’s now mostly handed over and it’s a huge relief!
So I wanted to do something different, something I haven’t done before -

I’ve gone for this ⬆️
Never cooked a bone in joint before.
Am clueless.
Anyone got any tips?

Ah when you’re picking up the turkey could you get a pat of butter?
Ok
Oh and the piccalilli didn’t turn up
Hmm right..
Just like my wife. I'll be paying at the checkout when the phone rings.
"Can you get me some tuna?"
"No, I've just checked out."
"Why don't you go back in?"
:hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

Ah well not quite, I know once he’s passed the tills it’s game over 😂
Any ‘go back in’ shenanigans would be met with protest. So I don’t do that to him and he doesn’t do that to me either 😆

A grey area though is the bit where you’re queuing for the till but haven’t started having your items blapped.
Now that ones 50/50 based on how badly the items needed.
Suddenly decided you fancy a packet of crisps? On your bike! Realised you’ve run out of oil well ok.. but only just 😜

I suppose it is obvious really!
I’ll be doing something with those breasts I don’t think I’ve ever done before - deboning them.

The recipe I’m making (for the challenge, either tomorrow or Sunday) calls for boneless skin-on chicken, which Kroger doesn’t sell (and won’t do for you), so I’m doing it myself. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Oh. Good luck there if you haven't done it before. Depending on the recipe you could always adapt it to being on the bone. Mostly, recipes specify chicken off the bone because people prefer that. Either that or the chicken breast needs butterfying, stuffing or flattening out in wich case it has to be de- boned.

The UK are huge consumers of deboned chicken breast, it’s hard to find it bone in now.
I can’t imagine going in a shop here and them not selling deboned chicken breasts, they are the go to protein for a lot of Brits.
I’m not a huge fan though, prefer thighs myself but occasionally something warrants a deboned breast.

Making ‘Marry Me’ chicken next week and that to me looks like a deboned chicken breast dish, not that I’ve made it before 😂 🤷‍♀️

I can get them deboned, but they’ll also be de-skinned. Can’t have one without the other here.

Boneless skinless chicken breast is, no doubt, the most popular chicken cut here.
