What produce/ingredients did you buy or obtain today (2024)?

There are always a lot of food deliveries when I get back from Spain.
Some due to wanting to get certain ingredients I haven’t been able to while away and some due to needing to restock the supplies. This time there are also some Christmas influenced ones.
Last deliveries of today -

Twelve 750ml bottles of sulphite free Scrumpy. Well 11 because one in the fridge waiting for testing later 😂

I have some mulled cider sachets to try out with some of this cider when the Christmas tree goes up tomorrow.

Field Doctor ready meals. Decided as I have a long cookathon ahead with all the Christmas food I’d give myself a break from the daily cooking with 5 days worth of these rather excellent ready meals.
I don’t have a lot of experience of ready meals what with so many of them being racked out with wheaty ingredients but I can certainly taste the difference with these lovely clean tasting, high veg content ones that field doctor produce.
I actually look forward to eating them, unlike normal ready meals.

This is my third order.
I wasn’t impressed with the number of substitutions to start with but they explained they’d been overwhelmed by orders since the NHS endorsed them and then the Breast Cancer Campaign also recommended them.

They seem to be back on top of things now.

Anyways if you’re under the weather or need a bit of a hand with freeing up time and you’re in the UK then these are worth a look.
They cater for so many different dietary requirements it’s a surprise how many options you can have.

I ticked, gluten free, dairy free and sulphite free and still had a lot to choose from.
Very happy.

Interesting. What are the use by dates on these or are they frozen? Expensive? Boring packaging.

It is boring but I like the plain packaging and the nutritional info taking centre stage. The disparity between the lovely photos of ready meals on the outer packaging compared to the contents is something I find quite disappointing.

They’re frozen and won’t last long 😋 so I haven’t looked at the dates.

Yes I think they are comparatively expensive but not compared to what I spend on ingredients for cooking.
When I eat them I feel like I’m getting my moneys worth because they taste good and you can tell efforts gone into making them work.

I like that I can just order when and what I want without some sort of stupid subscription.

Ice cream was 2-for-1…how often do you see me buying ice cream? Also, MrsT went to ALDI yesterday, with a list from me that did not contain ice cream…and she bought ice cream. Now we have three containers of the stuff.

Cider and juice are for Christmas Day punch, and interested in trying that “premium” jarred gravy, which I’ll still doctor up with a little fresh herbs and a splash of wine.

Not pictured-two bags of M&M’s (regular and mint), and some cheese.

Spotted this sour cream so thought we'd try it. CoYo is pretty reasonable if you like coconut based stuff.

The cheese we've had before and is a Christmas treat. Handy given I didn't get around to making any this year. There's still time but I've got a couple of assignments due and both hubby and I are working Monday and Tuesday.

Wish I could find dairy free sour cream in the uk. At the moment I buy the oatly crème fraiche and sour it with lemon. Works quite well but it’s not perfect.

We can't get creme fraiche and single fresh cream that Alpro does isn't available here. The options are very limited surprisingly on that front. I really wish Alpro would make in to the Australian market, but I guess that's a lot for a Finnish company half a world away. Makes going back to Helsinki much more fun mind you!

Oatly and Violife are the two brands that dominate my dairy free shopping now. They seem to have mastered taking flavourless oats and making them taste good enough for dairy eaters.

In Spain though it’s Alpro or Alpro and I’m grateful enough for that.

The range of Alpro in Scandinavia is much much better than the UK and is definitely a favourite of ours. It made cycling through Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland so much easier just knowing that any petrol station would have at least alpro milk and yoghurt typically. Even in the very far north.

Alpro has improved a lot here in recent years, it’s had to because it now has serious competition and can’t sit on its laurels. It would be interesting to taste the difference between the countries produce now.

But sold in a petrol station, and not even a recent thing, that’s incredible.
I understand that pain so much because when I was endurance cycling although I really really dislike pepperoni once I realised there’s not a petrol station in the world (slight exaggeration) without it at least I knew I could get gluten free calories!

As you have assignments I thought I should try and find them myself. Is this about right?
