What produce/ingredients did you buy or obtain today (2025)?

Ah yes the received wisdom thing, cook it to death or risk food poisoning!
My grandma could cook a lot of things perfectly, and seafood was one of them (and her fried chicken was the best), but she always overcooked vegetables. Even those already-mushy veggies that came in the can were then vigorously boiled to death.

It used to be the thing to do didn’t it! How did that ever come about?
“More veg mush? yummy we must do this again”
“Urr maybe we could try them slightly less..”
“What? Less cooked? Are you mad??”

I didn't dare make comments about food if I didn't like it at grandma's house. I asked for more of what I did like and ate all of what I didn't (if she put it on the plate). Complaining is a great way to get smacked in the ears!

Never got smacked (well twice ever by my mum) but wouldn’t have dared complain about some things like over cooked veg or have even known they came in any other form than over cooked!

To swerve back to staying on topic today I bought something that to me is an abomination but to Mr SSOAP is a childhood love -

Yes one of his favourite flavours is blue!
They had a blue and red twin pack but the red ingredients said “Not suitable for children under the age of three. May cause hyperactivity” 😯

I loved Slushies but I never saw it in a bottle (and I surely would not have chosen blue). Ours were frozen and came out of a machine at the convenience store.

That’s how they are here too.
But they also sell mini slushie makers for home use.
I don’t have one, I’m going to just use it to make ice cubes for a blender version.
Mr SSOAP won’t be able to drive for at least 6 weeks so it’s just a bit of entertainment for when he gets fed up.

MrsT is on a round of meds that, due to an interaction with other meds she’s on, means no alcohol over the next 10 days or so, so I had to buy her some NA beer - my guess is, she’ll drink a half of one and that’ll be that.

I hope those strawberries are good - $7 for that little box!

Spinach and ricotta for a recipe tomorrow. Never had hot cocoa Life before.
