What produce/ingredients did you buy or obtain today (2025)?

It is painstaking, I agree. I had about 750gms of tamarind in the fridge yesterday and decided to make tamarind chutney. Soak, rub to release the fruit, rub a bit more, add more water, strain...
There's a distinct difference between the block and the ready made, (I buy the ready made when in the UK and the USA), but it's probably not worth the PITA of having to process, unless you use the stuff weekly.
Still easier than using the tamarind beans :)

Good luck with the block. I tried this once and decided I didn't have the patience for it. It was the same brand.
the trick is to ignore the soak in a few tablespoons for water directive. Use much more water - ideally very hot to boiling. soak for a while, mix it up well and put through a sieve. Think tamarind water, not tamarind puree or paste and just aim to boil the excess water off in the dish - or if it uses stock, take the stock volume and deduct however much liquid you get from the tamarind.

Umm, now they're on my list too... 👍
Barriehie when I was researching ordering these little fish-ys online, it seems that the jarred stuff is NO BUENO. Go for the smaller cans, they don't bust open, albeit they may get a dent 🤷‍♀️ Ours came to us just swell.

Ollies!

I know what you're thinking. What's dental floss got to do with foods....

I don't like plastics that can't be recycled. Actually I don't like anything that doesn't have a very long life and can't be recycled, so dental floss has been on my list to find an alternative for for a while.

It even comes in a metal container with its own cutter in the lid.

(I'll add that photo when I'm not tethered to the nebuliser.)

Dangit! Went to make French fries for lunch with that parboil double fry method I’ve seen on here and not enough grease, like for cooking 🤣, to get it done. So, Wally World sees me again.

It's all good since Jessica likes yellow rice and doesn't have a lot of kitchen skills so I got her the "nuke it" variety.

I went to Aldi today as well. I didn't take photos of my haul per the usual, I just brought it in a put it away. I bought heavy cream, English cucumber, cilantro, avocados, lamb chops, cheese, Irish butter, yogurt, lemonade (for my vodka and lemonade cocktails), and some other stuff. I also had to get a loaf of bread, peanut butter, and bananas for my ground hog, who came out of hibernation a couple of days ago and came up for a peanut butter sandwich. She can't eat much right now because her stomach has shrunk so she only ate 1 pb sandwich. It got cold yesterday and won't be warm again until around the first of the coming week so I am sure she is in her hole for a few days waiting for it to be less cold.

That lower price for 12 is about what we pay here.

Did they have a limit on them? Right now, Kroger and ALDI are limiting eggs to two dozen per transaction.
Didn't see any signs. But with Easter coming up next month, I suspect there will be soon.

It was an exciting day at Kroger today. First, I had to help a fellow buy a cantaloupe - he’d chosen a…wait for it…butternut squash, thinking it was a melon!

Next, I went through the staffed checkout instead of self-checkout, and the guy bagging my groceries waited until everything was bagged and in my cart before putting 24-pack of bottled water in the cart…on top of everything else, even though I’d sent it down the conveyor belt first, specifically so he could put it in the cart first - that’s why you can’t really see the bottom of the loaf of bread - he’d smashed it flat!

Lastly, it’s the dreaded Girl Scouts cookie season, where shoppers are forced to run a gauntlet of over-excited scouts and their diabolical moms pushing cookies on patrons.

On the way in, one of the girls, who apparently is also a cheerleader, was doing cheer things back and forth across the entrance and banged into my cart while she was jumping and shouting, and one of the moms loudly barked, “Careful, honey, some people just don’t watch where they’re going with their carts!”

On the way out, two girls were blocking the exit and asking people if they wanted cookies, causing a backup.

I said, “No thanks, I’m good,” and I still had to maneuver around the one girl, barely enough room to get by (I had to literally pick up my cart to shift it around to be able to move), and I heard the same mom screaming at the girl as I left, “YOU GET IT FRONT OF ‘EM!!! YOU BLOCK ‘EM!!! YOU DON’T GIVE ‘EM A CHANCE TO LEAVE WITHOUT BUYIN’ SOMETHIN!!!’”
