It was an exciting day at Kroger today. First, I had to help a fellow buy a cantaloupe - he’d chosen a…wait for it…butternut squash, thinking it was a melon!
Next, I went through the staffed checkout instead of self-checkout, and the guy bagging my groceries waited until everything was bagged and in my cart before putting 24-pack of bottled water in the cart…on top of everything else, even though I’d sent it down the conveyor belt first, specifically so he could put it in the cart first - that’s why you can’t really see the bottom of the loaf of bread - he’d smashed it flat!
Lastly, it’s the dreaded Girl Scouts cookie season, where shoppers are forced to run a gauntlet of over-excited scouts and their diabolical moms pushing cookies on patrons.
On the way in, one of the girls, who apparently is also a cheerleader, was doing cheer things back and forth across the entrance and banged into my cart while she was jumping and shouting, and one of the moms loudly barked, “Careful, honey,
some people just don’t watch where they’re going with their carts!”
On the way out, two girls were blocking the exit and asking people if they wanted cookies, causing a backup.
I said, “No thanks, I’m good,” and I still had to maneuver around the one girl, barely enough room to get by (I had to literally pick up my cart to shift it around to be able to move), and I heard the same mom screaming at the girl as I left, “YOU GET IT FRONT OF ‘EM!!! YOU BLOCK ‘EM!!! YOU DON’T GIVE ‘EM A CHANCE TO LEAVE WITHOUT BUYIN’ SOMETHIN!!!’”
