How is the corona virus affecting you?

I just read that there are quite a number of professional footballers (soccer players) in the UK who aren´t vaccinated. Totally unbelievable.
I also hope that governments start treating those who have NOT been vaccinated the same way they treated smokers in the 90s: as pariahs.
So the non-vaccinated can´t go to public events, restaurants, bars, sports events, stores, shows, or anything else.
as they say in the bible: Sodom, for Gomorrah we die.

It seems to be around 25%. I don't really understand this as its lower than the UK average. From what I've read it seems that they fear their performance will be affected or possibly believe in the anti-vax propaganda:

"I think one of the reasons is social media, the anti-vax stuff that's bandied around, and it does get passed around the changing room," Dr Tensel, who is a GP and also works in a vaccination clinic, said.

"Football changing rooms are different to most workplaces.

"They're all together, it's an echo chamber, so if one of the senior players or an influential person has seen something on social media and that's passed to somebody else, they're not necessarily likely to critically appraise where that's come from and they can end up going down a rabbit hole."

119 NFL (American Football) players will nt be able to play this weekend due to testing positive for Covid. Since even vaccinated people can test positive, I'm sure many of these players are vaccinated. Un vaxxed players already have to follow special rules in order to play (except for "legend in his own mind," Aaron Rogers ).

Just taken the decision to cancel out 25th Wedding Anniversary plans for a few nights away in Sydney.
Opening up and dropping all restrictions preventing the minority of unvaxxed from doing anything has had the predictable outcome. Figures are almost double where they were 4-5 months ago and have increased 4 fold in less than a week. (yep I know it's not that bad compared most other places but actually travelling into a hotspot to have a few days away just seems stupid to us).

So given that the new premiere seems to be intent on doing the exact opposite of the old premiere, we'll plan to have the day on the coast for our actual anniversary (toes in the water has become a tradition - maybe even a swim this year ?) and perhaps visit the large airy and very spacious cinema again over Christmas/New Year. And there is alway the botanical gardens. I've not yet been round it on foot so quite a bit of it is unknown to me!

If I didn't know better, I'd guess you live in Florida or Texas. When cases go up, the two governors double down, and remove even more restrictions in the name of "freedom."

Sounds like you have a pretty good plan B. :okay:

I'm spending Christmas with my family in Houston. Nobody in Houston wears masks, but my family are all double vaxxed and boosted. Arlines still require masks, and airliners have very good air filtration systems, so I'm not worried about the travel.

I had to pick up some household cleaning stuff at Walmart today, and at least 1/3 of people are still masking up. I don't know what it is like in Dallas or the other suburbs, but people in Frisco are wearing masks more than I expected. When I get to Houston for Christmas, I'l be surprised if I see anyone in a mask.

Now I hear talk of a possible FOURTH booster shot!! Do we have to keep on doing this every time that a new strain comes out?!! This is ridiculous!!!! Like this is NEVER gonna go away!!!!
And how many flu jabs have you had over the years? Why do you think this is going to be any different?

Do we have to keep on doing this every time that a new strain comes out?!!
That is exactly what we do every winter for every new strain of flu. And that vaccination has been shown to wear off inside 4 months. it's why they don't want to give the vaccination in eary autumn because it won't cover you for all of winter assuming that their best guess for which strain of flu is going to be dominant over winter & early spring is actually the correct guess.

Key Facts About Seasonal Flu Vaccine
Adults, <snip>, should generally not get vaccinated early (in July or August) because protection may decrease over time,
Why do I need a flu vaccine every year?

A flu vaccine is needed every year for two reasons. First, a person’s immune protection from vaccination declines over time, so an annual flu vaccine is needed for optimal protection. Second, because flu viruses are constantly changing, the composition of flu vaccines is reviewed annually, and vaccines are updated to protect against the viruses that research indicates will be most common during the upcoming flu season. For the best protection, everyone 6 months and older should get vaccinated annually.

If you're lucky, they'll "combine" or do both at the same time in years to come once research shows it is/is not as effective if it is/is not combined or at least done at the same time as the flu jab. I know that the pneumonia jab can be given at the same time as the fIu vaccination and each time a new variant is added to the pneumonia vaccine, both myself & my husband get called in for another shot (because pneumonia almost killed us both 4 or 5 years ago).

Various other vaccinations can be combined, but some have to be separate to others.
Hubby & I had a fair few before we went out cycling on tour. Polio, Yellow fever, tick bourne encephalitis (hoping I spelt that correctly), Rabies, tetanus, thyphus, japanese encephalitis, whooping cough, measles, mumps, rubella, Meningococcal, Hepatitis A, TB, to name just a few (1 or 2 of my childhood vaccinations didn't "take" so had to be repeated individually rather than combined - one in particular put me in picu as an infant and none of my siblings (full or 1/2 siblings) were allowed them as a result.

Some countries still have mandatory vaccination certificates needed to be shown before you are allowed to enter, yet I never heard of people complaining about mandatory vaccinations in order to enter a country (prior to Covid-19)... Odd really, Yellow fever is the main one that springs to mind. Without the original (paper) certificate, no entry period. The Vaccine Passport Debate Actually Began In 1897 Over A Plague Vaccine International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis - Wikipedia

And despite data showing that you only need 1 dose for life-time protection (this changed recently from the one dose every 10 years) some 17 countries in the world will not permit a traveller entry unless their certificate is within the last 5 to 10 years. Yet no-one really complains about that because it doesn't affect the majority of those who yell the loudest can be heard.

Good points on annual flu shots. I have two close friends who get the flu shot every year, but haven't gotten the Covid shots. Go figure.

Flu shots are new EVERY year -- it is NOT the same shot every year. And, the formula is based on an educated guess by doctors and scientists of what this years flu strains will most likely be. They can guess wrong. The Covid vaccines are made for a known virus.

Also, Pneumococcal (pneumonia) vaccines are given five years apart. I'm good for another three years on that one.

this bit varies around the world. The UK used to be every 10 years but after your 3rd was for life, then I believe they changed it to a single shot for life. that's what nearly killed both my husband and I. I was due my 3rd shot just before coming out to Australia but were told no, it's now for life (hubby had never had one).

we both came close to dying from it. very close. had I have been at home the night I wad actually in hospital on life support, I would have died in my sleep from it. instead I had a doctors appointment because and I'll quote 'I felt unwell'... it was an understatement to say the least. my body was already shutting down at that point. I was too ill to know how I'll I actually was, so was my husband.

anyhow. Australia is still every 10 years, but each time a new variant is added to the vaccine, our doctors are playing safe because if how badly it affected both of us (and he's usually the healthy one).

In early February of 2020, I got the flue (neglected my annual flu shot), which turned into pneumonia, which turned into an infection that put me in the hospital for 4 days. I get my flu shots religiously, now.

yeah, 6 days on life support, 12 in ICU alone. then another 2 months in hospital split between ward and inpatient rehab... it took roughly 6 months to get over it.

I met other patients whilst I was in rehab who had been in much longer than I had. one guy, the guy I shared a room with in rehab, had been in hospital for a total of 9 months, 1 community acquired pneumonia infection and 2 hospital acquired pneumonia infections before he was well enough to be discharged.

I consider myself to be very lucky. pulse ox stats on my limbs were at 38% at the doctors surgery (hence my understatement of my life!). they actually tried 3 separate devices, before I suggested (I'll say now, I have no memory of the suggestion, but it is the sort of thing I'd suggest) trying it on someone else. they tried Stuart, wasn't great but at least in the 80's... so my doctor tried it on herself and got 98%.... i remember leaving the surgery on a stretcher. i don't remember going into the ambulance. i have no memory of the 45 minute trip to the closest hospital, nor of that hospital at all (were i was put on life support) and no memory of being airlifted to a second hospital where they had the ICU faculties needed (including isolation) until it was diagnosed. and it wasn't the usual strains of pneumonia either, but one carried by wild birds. (our chooks didn't have it either, it would have killed some or all of them if they had and some of the girls we have now, we had then as well. )

I came round a day or two later. I've only really any memory of 3 days & 4 nights on life support, not the 6 I spent on it.

I just had to stay while they pumped me full of IV antibiotics, and they had to drain a bunch of fluid from my abdomen -- about 7 liters IIRC. I think they kept me longer than they needed to. But, since I live alone, they didn't want to send me home. My PCP (regular doctor) saw me in her office, and sent me to the hospital. I drove there, and drove home four days later.

The only time I have ever been in an ambulance was when I got run over by a boat in Lake Lewisville (near my house). I was unconscious for about 30 minutes... I woke up as I was being loaded into the ambulance. I had a concussion, and needed 20-something stitches (it was a long time ago, I don't remember the exact count). They wanted me to spend the night in the hospital for observation, but I said no, and my wife took me home.

I had major cancer surgery on a Friday, and went to work on Monday. My co-workers were shocked, and told me to get my a$$ home. I did a few things I needed to do, and went home. I was there less than two hours.

I just don't have the patience to be a good patient.

I know when I finally regained consciousness, I was that weak, I couldn't actual even roll over onto my side or attempt to. moving my legs was beyond me, my arms a challenge and I could barely hold my head up for a few moments at a time. they needed a porter every time they needed to move me, roll me or just run my back to prevent bed sores. as I said, had I have been home that night, I would not have survived.

my husband only got to stay home because our doctor saw him each and every day. she knew we had animals and that it was only us. no one else. he was actually that ill that he never saw me in ICU at all. the staff didn't understand initially why I had no visitors.

Doug Ford our Premier in Ontario just introduced more restrictions. 1/2 capacity in restaurants and bars and no indoor gatherings of more than 10 people and of course masks are mandatory everywhere, social distancing and proof of double vaccination to get into many establishments like restaurants. Starting Tuesday all travelers entering Canada will be required to produce a negative PCR test.

This allows the gov't to think more by slowing the pandemic down, because thinking is scarce and elusive, Mr. Ford just said that the tsunami that is Omicron that is hitting England right now can't happen here and these precautions are needed. Thanks Doug, now that is real critical thinking and I'm positive it will work this time.

Full hard lockdown until at least Jan 14.

-Restaurants, bars, hotels, entertainment, cultural sector, non essential stores : closed
-All schools for all ages and child day cares closed
-No sports competitions, no public events, no large gatherings outside
-Closed barbers, physiotherapists and other close contact services
-Closed day care for disabled and mentally ill people
-No more than 4 visitors allowed at home
-No more than 4 people of the same household outside

Booster shots should be administered to everyone who wants one before february. But only 1.5 millon people have been vaccinated in the whole of December, yet they assume they will vaccinate 9 million in January.. I don't think so given their track record.
And this is all going to last till march, given their track record.
