Plans for today (2024)

And here we get hummous on the tubs we purchase.

Yoga, then shopping delivery today 👏
Making orange ice-cream.
Looking forward to that, getting the balance of zestyness and sweetness right when frozen will be tricky.
Then some syrup in readiness for tapioca pearls for a hopefully lurid ’bubble tea’
And pressure cooking some eggs for a couple of days cooling (shrinking) in the fridge before making some equally vibrant Pikobi eggs (devilled eggs).
By Sunday I should have accumulated enough dishes for a truly weird looking Star Wars lunch, we’ll see.

Oh and work, keep forgetting about that 😆

Not gone quite to plan.
I have nice lunch planned on sunday and wanted to get a little bit ahead but I’ve just had one of those days where the cooking gods are not smiling on me.

It took over an hour to make black bean houmous.
It’s not hard, put the ingredients in the blender and whizz. But no I just could not get the flavour or texture right. I finally got there (so I thought) and decanted into it’s containers and then remembered I didn’t check the flavour with the tortilla’s (chips), fed up by now I nearly didn‘t bother but after all the fussing I decided I’d better.

It was not good. It was really bland. The tortilla‘s are already bland apart from salt and this houmous was not helping the situation, it was a joyless dip!
So I grudgingly scrape it all back into the processor bowl (for a second time) and wash the containers cos the lid’s won’t seal well covered in gunk. Several more adjustments and more spice and seasoning than you would have thought it possible for some beans and tahini to absorb and it finally arrived in a good place.

The kitchen side and sink is plastered in bits of dip and I’ve lost the will the live!

I wasted the afternoon in a houmous fight 🥊

These beans should be called black hole beans! 🫘 😁

That is a sad tale indeed. I feel for you. At best, black beans have a lovely slightly smoky, earthy flavour. I reckon that they don't really need tahini which has a rather heavy presence and are better served simply whizzed up with garlic, salt and lemon juice. Oh how I wish I was up to cooking again as I would experiment...

Maybe, worth a try.
The tahini did add a nice smooth sesame flavour to it and the beans were still prominent.
I very much prefer making black bean houmous as I really dislike chickpea skins, mostly the picking them out bit 😆

Plans for today did not include my husband limping home at 7:30 am in my 4×4...

I had further to drive today than he did so he took my vehicle. He got 10 minutes down the road and came home. She's was overheating and buy the time he drove her home there were 3 separate warning lights on on the dashboard, lights I've actually had to look up because I've never seen them before.

She's back to being off the road. I don't even know right now if I can drive her to the garage some 16km (10 miles) away. Tomorrow, I'll pull the air filter out and see how bad the damage is. Not impressed.

Today, I plan to do nothing.
Nothing at all.
Wife's Energiser Bunny Mode finally came to a head yesterday when her 10 school friends all arrived for dinner.
Garden finished, tables set, food prepared and we had a great afternoon/evening.
Menu was Cauliflower pakoras, spiced shortbread with confit tomatoes, Keralan shrimp, Mangalore chicken, Basmati, toor dal and masoor dal, mattar paneer, mango pickle, gulab jamun and olive oil, apple and ricotta cake. We did the food, they brought the booze.

Oh, oh... I know what Basmati is... that rice! That's all I recognize from your meal menu. :scratchhead:

(I'm giving the :scratchhead: emoji a real workout today)
