Not gone quite to plan.
I have nice lunch planned on sunday and wanted to get a little bit ahead but I’ve just had one of those days where the cooking gods are not smiling on me.
It took over an hour to make black bean houmous.
It’s not hard, put the ingredients in the blender and whizz. But no I just could not get the flavour or texture right. I finally got there (so I thought) and decanted into it’s containers and then remembered I didn’t check the flavour with the tortilla’s (chips), fed up by now I nearly didn‘t bother but after all the fussing I decided I’d better.
It was not good. It was really bland. The tortilla‘s are already bland apart from salt and this houmous was not helping the situation, it was a joyless dip!
So I grudgingly scrape it all back into the processor bowl (for a second time) and wash the containers cos the lid’s won’t seal well covered in gunk. Several more adjustments and more spice and seasoning than you would have thought it possible for some beans and tahini to absorb and it finally arrived in a good place.
The kitchen side and sink is plastered in bits of dip and I’ve lost the will the live!
I wasted the afternoon in a houmous fight
These beans should be called black hole beans!
Maybe, worth a try. That is a sad tale indeed. I feel for you. At best, black beans have a lovely slightly smoky, earthy flavour. I reckon that they don't really need tahini which has a rather heavy presence and are better served simply whizzed up with garlic, salt and lemon juice. Oh how I wish I was up to cooking again as I would experiment...
That's not rubbish! Its 34 deg. C here atm. Heading out to garage to sort rubbish out. First thing was 3 fishing rods and a surfcastrer.

Maybe he got this one:lights I've actually had to look up because I've never seen them before.
Same here, except I may go out and play in the snow a bit later.Today, I plan to do nothing.
Today, I plan to do nothing.
Nothing at all.
Wife's Energiser Bunny Mode finally came to a head yesterday when her 10 school friends all arrived for dinner.
Garden finished, tables set, food prepared and we had a great afternoon/evening.
Menu was Cauliflower pakoras, spiced shortbread with confit tomatoes, Keralan shrimp, Mangalore chicken, Basmati, toor dal and masoor dal, mattar paneer, mango pickle, gulab jamun and olive oil, apple and ricotta cake. We did the food, they brought the booze.
