Plans for today (2024)

We have a storm coming with up to 80mile an hour winds and widespread power cuts predicted starting around 6pm.
I think I’m going to have to cancel today’s lunch because we can’t be the reason the boys try to drive home in it this evening.

Spent some time preparing this lunch, was looking for to it a lot.
A bit miserable now 😔

Did you get any damage? It was pretty crazy here in Kent with wheelie bins blowing all over the road but no damage.
 
Not much planned for today. Phone calls... still dealing with paperwork related to my dad's death.

I need to do a little shopping. I was going to cook a pasta challenge entry yesterday evening, but that big box of Penne pasta in my pantry was only 1/4 full. I should have checked. I need a few other things, so it won't be a trip to the store for just one thing.

1/4 full sounds like quite a lot of pasta for one person or even two...

Halve it? Or make more sauce than needed and keep for another time?

I can't halve it without wasting tomatoes. I could keep leftover sauce in the freezer, but the freezer is where leftovers go to die in my house. :laugh:

One way or another, I will have leftovers to deal with. If I make the complete dish, as I usually do, I can give some to my neighbors. I usually make this at my sister's house, and portion it out to freeze for my mom.

I was in the same boat - about 1/3 of a bag, and halving the recipe I’m planning on using needs just a touch more than that, so when it’s all done, I’ll probably have one bag that 7/8ths full. :laugh:

I tend to use less pasta than most recipes state 'per person'. Standard seems to be 75g but I'm quite happy with 60g (less calories).
