…and I got called for work while I was shopping at Kroger.
What kills me is, we have a “first line of defense” team offshore - that’s who called me. About 30 people, their calls come in through a switchboard, and they never identify themselves or any details:
<RING…RING…sees call is from India location>
Yeah, hi, this is Tasty.
Yeah, uh, I’m calling from offshore, there is a failed job, can you please look into it ok bye thanks.
Wait, who is thi-
<Click…hangup>
I had to stop mid-shop, run out to my car and get my laptop, boot it up, go through all the extra security of logging in when it’s a new network, get online…all the offshore guys have punched out for the day, they’re gone, no idea who called me, checked everything, no failed jobs, everything’s fine.
That took about 20 minutes. Back to shopping…20 minutes later, I get another call from another team, wanting to know when I’m going to ever get to this failed job that’s holding their stuff up.
Back online, look again…the offshore guys had misdirected the issue for our failed stuff to some other unrelated group, which explained why I never got paged in the first place, and now a whole lot of other people are ticked off at me.
If I weren’t so tired from being up…32 hours straight now, I’d fly to India, drive the remaining few hours to their facility, introduce myself, maybe grab a cup of tea and a snack, and spend the rest of the day cramming all their heads up their asses.
