Arepas look like this, basically. Typical fillings are pulled beef (carne mechada), Grated white cheese, chunks of soft white cheese (queso telita o guayanés), cheese with black beans (domino), chicken with avocado (reina pepiada), pulled pork. Down at the beach you´ll often find them filled with spiced dogfish (cazón), which is absolutely divine.

If you can’t tell, that’s a red hat, red shirt, black jacket, white trousers, rainbow socks, and red-and-white wingtips. His wife is dressed similarly.

That’s either my horrible job at obscuring his face (although a guy who dressed like that probably wouldn’t mind the internet attention), or he’s just fallen face-first into his plate of eggs.

Many of these breakfasts are getting me drooling seriously. I will have to start posting my brekkies here more often...

No photo: this morning, two home-grown fried eggs sunny side up, a large batch of spinach (which was only somewhat large after being wilted in the skillet), cream cheese, a dash or so of ground cayenne pepper.

I don't add salt to eggs cooked this way; and I don't dip anything into the yolks except a spoon. Yummers!

They're like a roll, or possibly more a muffin given dimensions, so you just cut them
They are basically like our cornmeal pancakes, AKA Johnny cakes in the US, although ours often use baking powder for leavening. I saw a recipe for arepa where they do not use any leavening. Doesn't that make them dense?

Looks like someone taking the expression, "egg on one's face" literally... .

Other than the flour used is made from cooked corn whereas I believe cornmeal is dried corn. They are fairly dense but they aren't made very thick so you have the crunchy crust and creamy innards

We don't do this very often, DH & I went out to have breakfast this morning.
Coffee & Tea
2 Eggs Over easy, 2 Pork Sausage Patties, Fruit cup and Sourdough Toast-4 slices btw
1 Cinnamon Roll the size of my head and we shared all of the above.
*Small rant: have you seen the cost of eating out? I know we haven't had breakfast out in a long while, but MAN! $28USD for all of that!
DH & I were just discussing this and we'll need to look at cutting back on dining out.
