The CookingBites Recipe Challenge: Nov 2015-June 2017

I am racking my brains trying to think of how to suggest equivalents! What do you think, @SatNavSaysStraightOn?
It's an interesting choice. luckily in in the i like it, not necessarily I love it but it is better than Vegemite. thankfully the big supermarket in Canberra had an international Isle where Marmite is one of the products... :whistling: so I'm abl to obtain both as well as other similar versions (Vege Spread). bovril I've not seen at all. (we eat Vegemite and/or Marmite everyday because mossies don't like you as much because of high vit b in your body meaning not as many midge bites - worked wonders on tour through Scandinavia camping wild in tundra and swamp forests).

@Kake Lover it is up to you, but the chat on Marmite and equivalents is fine here until you choose the next ingredient. I am pretty certain that everyone who partakes of the challenge has an equivalent available but... I'll leave it with you to confirm.

I remember my Mum making marmite biscuits. I'm going to see her tomorrow so I'll ask about the recipe. Do we have to have a photo to enter the competition?

No, you don't have to include a photo. But we love it if you do!

I would love to hear about your Mum's recipe.

I went to Mum's today. We had a second Christmas dinner! I remembered to ask about the Marmite biscuits. She said that she got the recipe from nan (her mum) and it could have been a war time recipe. She wrote it out for me. So here it is. I haven't tried making it but I do remember that she made them when my friends came round and we all loved them.

8 ounces flour
2 ounces lard
2 teaspoons marmite
some water

Heat up the oven to a moderate heat. Rub the fat into the flour until it is like breadcrumb. Add water slowly until it makes a ball of dough. Roll out on a floured surface until quite thin. Spread with marmite and fold it over and roll it again. Cut into fingers and bake until done (about ten minutes).

I've taken the liberty of making this a recipe in its own right in the baking section: Savoury Marmite Biscuits
