She said if I’d had come in when it happened, it would have warranted a few stitches, but we’re past that point now. I should be able to go without the dressing starting Sunday.
Here’s a fun little side note: I started pulling it apart this morning, and it started bleeding again, so that’s when I decided to just go in and have it seen to properly.
First, called my regular doc’s office and asked if a nurse could just clean and bandage it for me.
“No. If you come in, you have to see a doctor, you can’t just see a nurse. That’s what Urgent Care is for. Go to Urgent Care.”
I did a quick check off my health benefits app on my phone and found an Urgent Care near me that takes my insurance. Drove the 12 miles.
Got out, went to the front entrance, big sign that said masks were required “NO EXCEPTIONS!!!” - ok, back to the car to get a mask, no problem, didn’t have one in my pocket.
Got inside to the Urgent Care entrance, turned the doorknob…locked, and a little sign that said the office was closed, but if you really need help, call this number, and someone will call you back and they’ll come in if they need to.
They should change their name to Not Very Urgent Care At All, I think.
Checked my app for the next closest facility, and it happened to be the employee clinic my employer runs. They provide clinics in various markets, it’s usually too far out for me to go, but I was already halfway there, so off I went.
It was an absolute delight.
Two workers - office manager and nurse practitioner. That was it. Usually, any medical office visit here entails about 20 minutes of forms (especially if you’re a new patient) and handing over picture ID and insurance card, etc.
Nope, because I’m an employee, they already had all that, even though I’d never been there before, so I didn’t have to fill anything out, and I didn’t even have to wait. I was seen to immediately.
Not only that, but they gave me all the supplies I’ll need to take care of it over the next few days - dressing, wrap, tape, antibacterial cream, etc. Usually, I have to go buy that separately.
Sweet!
PS - that took me awhile to type with one finger!
Guess who's back? Guess who's back? Guess who's back? Not the real slim shady, but the real sick lady!

Got my own room this time, most likely I have a bacterial infection wreaking havoc on my short bowel. Most likely clostridium or salmonella. Was taken in through A&E with dehydration symptoms this morning.
More test results will come later.
Well fingers crossed it's just a bacterial infection, because the alternative would be that my colitis turns out to be Crohns which is really not a turn for good.Nice to have your own room - I hope you get better really soon.
Hope you feel better soon.Guess who's back? Guess who's back? Guess who's back? Not the real slim shady, but the real sick lady!
