I hope they gave you more than a lapel pin. At the very least, something good to eat.

Here, at 25 years, you get to choose a gift from a special catalog, and if I remember correctly, the value of the items on offer hover around the $400-$500 range.

Additionally, you get to join the “25 Year Club,” and that’s mainly an annual banquet at a nice venue, and the food is pretty good. My closest coworker reached 25 years, and he’s something of a gourmand, and he was impressed.

Lastly, you also get bumped up to five weeks of paid annual vacation.

If I’m here long enough to get any of that (I’m currently at 16 years), it means I didn’t plan well enough for my retirement. :laugh:

Well oh well, merry Christmas to me!

The neighbors who were recently in some distress, so we helped them out by taking her to the hospital and dog-sitting for a few days…just gave us a $100 gift card to the gourmet shop I like.

We assured them that was far too generous, and that whatever I make from spending it, we’ll share with them.

Me and Willy at the vet. Can you detect the family resemblance?

Just found out that my young nephew was rushed into hospital yesterday after collapsing. He's 8 years old and has been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. :(The family have a pretty healthy diet luckily; mum is a primary school headmistress and vegetarian, father, like my husband is a good cook as well, so they should manage it OK once they get their head around the changes they'll need to make. They are hoping to have him home for Christmas, by a day, but the hospital are keeping him in for now. They are already talking about an insulin pump for him. He has an uncle (on father's side) with type 1 and another with type 2, and I know there is glaucoma in the family as well...

Not what was needed or wanted for Christmas. It nearly killed his uncle before he was diagnosed. I don't know how bad it got for him to be admitted but I can guess.
I've just heard that our nephew who was moved from paediatric intensive care to the general paediatric ward during the week, was discharged overnight (our time) and is now home. :thumbsup:

We get a watch for 25 years.

We were supposed to get a watch or carriage clock after 25 years. Because I'd had broken service, they forgot about me so I received my gold watch (Rolex, nothing special) in Kuala Lumpur after 27 years. I had it for 11+ months and it fell apart. I was told it was because of the climate in Malaysia but they sent me another. That one didn't last as long.

<rant mode on>

Ahhhhhhh, my bl***y brother is on the "<removing real name> is 80 tomorrow" have yet again... :banghead:

The guy was a drug dealer, drug user, rapist, violent bastard who was an alcoholic who tried to kill me, on top of all that and made our lives a living hell.

I just want to bang my brother's head against a brick wall somedays, I really do. Only I won't because that'll make me no better than my real father but I really wish he'd stop idolising the man, I really do.

<rant mode over, normal service will resume shortly>
