For anyone listening in who is not from the UK, Lidl's and Aldi are the two main 'cut price no-frills' supermarkets in the UK, who have gained enormous ground over recent years.

They must have done. I've heard of neither.

And how long is it since you were in the UK...? Lidls has been around since the mid 90's and I used to shop in one back then. But it might have depended on regions. The one I remember, back then was in Surrey. Aldi's first UK store opened in Birmingham in 1992, (I just looked it up!).

No wreath on our door either. it will be a while yet before our tree goes up. we usually only decorate a few days before Christmas. We don't like the commercialisation of Christmas that it has become, so keep things simple and short. if i really could hey away without a Christian celebration I would. I would much rather celebrate the shortest day and mid winter ,celebrate and welcome in a new year.

This year the tree will have roots, my new boyfriend is adamantly vegan and even the idea of cutting down a tree to bring indoors is not on. But one with good roots and soil should be ok for a short period. fingers crossed.

And a plastic one is just not an option. Plastic equals oil... And you don't need to hear the rest

We don't have a local Lidl although I have been into 1 and wasn't all that impressed to be honest

Does anyone here have a Christmas wreath on their door?

I haven't - but nearly bought one from Aldi (there were piles of them, quite cheap), I only popped down there for a loaf of white sliced - I have an Aldi at the end of the road.
I don't (don't do Xmas) but I would love the white, brown or yellow sliced even though I am suppose to be staying away from bread. I want to lose some weight. Anyway we have no Aldi or Asda . Can you swear in this thread? I just had a British customer who left the outfit behind because it was too pricey. In my eyes it's quite cheap. When did the pound drop so drastically?

Asda goes under a different name that side of the pond.

And the X in Xmas is down to the Greek alphabet.

From CC.
The X in Xmas is actually the Greek letter Chi, which was a common abbreviation of Kristos, Christ’s name.
