I'm in HDU at the moment so finally actually have so time on my hands.
A quick catch up.
In February, my husband had major surgery and to help me out my parents (mum and disabled step-father) came out to Australia to help me (also disabled) look after my husband. Because of Covid-19, my parents became stranded here in Australia. Lockdown, borders closing and all that happened 2 days before their 2nd attempt at getting have. Their 1st attempt was brought forward by 7 days because we could see what was happening.
Fast forward to 90 days from their arrival in Australia and their visas were expiring. Being retired, they didn't quality for the free emergency covid-19 visa extension. They had to apply for another visitor visa and with my step-father being over 75yrs old there was a mandatory medical. This caught heart failure with a fluid build up on both lungs. He (or more accurately, we) got lucky! Catching it meant treatment before a heart attack but it was a close call. Various new medications, others doubled, then tripled and so on.
My parents stayed in their air BNB but lived during the day with us. The air BNB not really being suitable for longer term habitation and certainly not by 2 0AP's or seniors as they are known here. That also meant a degree of financial stress for them and they got our main vehicle, the hire car having to go back. There were good days and bad days and a new found appreciation of Southern Australian winters. Several weeks of temperatures well below 0°C at night and not getting out of single figures during the day took their toll.
It took 4 more attempts at getting them back to the UK. It was needed for my step-father's health both physical and mental. They are finally out of 2 weeks quarantine having to undergo it despite coming from one of the safest (covid-19 related) countries in the world.
So now that I'm beginning to get over the stress of nursing two seniors through an Aussie winter during a pandemic, it was time to get my delayed operation done. To try to address the chronic pain I live in from spinal cord damage and sciatic nerve issues/damage I trialled a spinal nerve stimulator back before Christmas last year. It was, obviously, a successful trial, and I've now had a full spinal nerve stimulator inserted. It's a 2hr operation and due to the need for future MRIs, I needed to have the non-rechargable stimulator which is implated much deeper into the body so a much longer recovery time (instead of 1-2 weeks, its 6-8 weeks just for pain to subside and 12 weeks before I can left, twist or bend over again! )
So whilst I can't currently cook, I will try to photo and log pictures of what hubby makes for me to eat when I'm out of hospital and what's going on in the garden which is springing into life now the Spring is definitely around the corner. I'll try to get the routine maintenance done on the server. It's 12 months since the upgrade which means I need to renew all the licences, see what can be removed to save the site money, and if there is anything new out there that will add to the end-User (you!) experience. I'll also look at the formatting, the sub-forum layout and see if there is anything that needs tinkering with. I want to get member documentation sorted so that there are better help files for the media gallery and so forth...
So there is lots to do, but I'm quite restricted as to my mobility and ability to do anything other than sit and knit or make masks on the sewing machine...
And I've so many things that I want to do...
And we have 5 baby chicks (less than 2 weeks old ) living in the house with us. It's too cold for them outside even with a heat lamp, so they are living in the sitting room next to the wood burning stove. They are cute as anything and great fun, but also noisy!
