I thought our winter was over but yesterday it rained most of the day and today, albeit sunny, we have low 16°C (61°F); high 29°C (84°F). Midday and I still have a jacket on.

[Edit (13:15): I took the jacket off 15 minutes ago but it wasn't because I was sweating!]

We have freezing rain in the forecast overnight. It probably won't do much to surface roads, but bridges and overpasses will probably ice over. Temperatures are supposed to be in the 20s and 30s for about a week. That's below to just above 0C.

For some perspective, I live at about the same latitude as Marrakesh, Morocco.

Going outside this morning was a necessity rather than something to be desired. I had prescription medicine to collect and there was the minor detail of needing some food. We had heavy snow last night which is lying thickly.

One very noticeable thing was that our local entrepreneurs were quick off the mark. Two shops in the High Street were selling snow shovels. People were buying them as well. We saw one chap walking off with two of them. It all seems a bit pointless to me. As Catherine observed, it's not like we're going to get this for weeks on end. The forecasts suggest that today should see the last of the snow.

Still, one bright spot - we've reached today's maximum temperature of -1C, so we're warming up.

Really freaky weather here. Looking forward to the sun putting it hat on on Friday! Split - BBC Weather
You seem to get it quite windy in that part of the world. I recall a very bumpy descent into Dubrovnik a few years ago. At one stage, the captain told us we might have to be diverted to Split. When you're on a plane that's shaking about all over the place, "Split" is not a word you want to hear...
