Much milder today, 8C at present. The snow is melting, though there are still big patches where blocks of ice have formed, but should go in the next couple of days.
Today is an anniversary for those of us in the UK. Fifty years ago today, it was Decimalisation Day, when the old pounds, shillings and pence disappeared. The only coins that have survived since 1971, at least in their original form, are one and two pence pieces. The half-pence coin only lasted until about 1984, I think. The twenty pence coin came along later and the five and ten pence coins were remodelled. We had a fifty pence coin that changed size, too, a smaller version coming along in 1997. Even the pound coin has had a change and the two pound coin was a later beast altogether. So the only (valid) coins with 1971 on them are the ones and twos.
