Minor hiccup getting to the airport, but it's looking pretty good for getting to Orlando with little issue (famous last words...).

Cincy is a fairly small airport, and we've always used the same offsite long-term parking for as long as we've used this airport, so 25+ years.

Got off the highway...onto the access road...past the rental car drop-off...and the parking lot was closed for resurfacing.

Quick scramble to find any parking options other than the terminal parking ($$$$), and we found the only other one.

Good thing we always arrive a few hours ahead of boarding. 😅

I admit, I hadn't heard about it, that is so very sad!
Yep! I am floored by this. I didn't even know something like this could happen. I mean we hear about wildfires from mistakes but a place just going up in smoke from the weather? I lived through the blizzard of 1979 and it got to - 70 degrees some time in the 1990s in Chicago but I've never heard of a spontaneous fire like this. It's just heart-breaking.

it didn't go up in smoke because of the "weather" . . . something started a fire - then the 40 mph winds blew the fire through the town. investigators have not yet determined how it started.

when an area has dry conditions, and plenty of tinder, big fires happen real fast. that's the CA model.
however this looks like something happened "in town" and the wind spread the fire. areas outside the town are not burned....

We get those sudden wildfires here in Texas, too. The 100F - plus temperatures with little or no rain dry out the fuel. Wind feeds and spreads the wildfire.

The most recent one near me was cause by "dry lightning." There were a few random storm clouds passing overhead, but no rain was falling. A bolt of lightning struck a utility pole, setting off a fire in a large cattle grazing field. A lot of wildfires are started by dry lightning.

Here is the aftermath of that fire.

The fuel gauge on my generator. This shows I have half a tank remaining. It seems to be very efficient considering it has been running for about 18 hours (it’s a 5 gallon tank).

I had a fun moment last night trying to figure out how much fuel was remaining. The indicator was on full red, which I thought meant it was empty, or that the fuel gauge didn’t work. It turns out red is good in this case, since the red level is the fuel level.

I'm sure you know this, but turn off the generator to add fuel.

This wildfires talk reminds me of a piece that was very popular in Portugal years ago and became an internet sensation. A journalist was covering wildfires and interviewing a man whose house was near the fire. The live interview went like this:

Journalist: So the fire is very near, it's almost at your door isn't it?!

Man: Yes, it is... Yes... But I have to leave, I have a doctor's appointment at 5.

Congrats to the Brits out there, I enjoyed the second half of the beautiful game. Look forward to the final.

The beautiful game?

A bunch of pampered millionaires trying to trip each other up for the financial benefit of a small group of billionaires as they strip money from millions of deluded poor people.
Meanwhile, as the Denmark goalkeeper (actually a decent guy who tried to rescue his business owner from a burning helicopter and most recently comforted the wife of another player whose heart had stopped whilst the whole World watched) prepared for a penalty, a loyal England fan shone a laser in his face.
Tonight, thousands of morons will get drunk because/despite of the result and go home and hit their wives or kids.

The beautiful game?

(Joke) As for the congratulating the Brits, there are millions of Scots, Welsh and Northern Irish who are not celebrating, but well done an Aussie thinking of them 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
