So FINALLY, after 43 and a half years living here in Venezuela, I got invited to a British Embassy function, thanks to a new friend (also a Brit married to a Venezuelan) who put my name forward (thanks, mate!)
Today is/was Remembrance Day, to remember the 20 million deaths in the 1st World War. That was a heck of a lot of people dying for no particular reason.
Anyway - met the ambassador, met the chef, met the military attaché, met some friends, ate cucumber sandwiches and egg salad sandwiches (hadn't even seen them since I last played cricket at Blackheath in 1980) and had a wonderful time.
The ambassador asked me how I'd slipped off the radar for 43 years.
"No idea!" I said.
"Not a problem," he said, "because now your on the list, you'll never, ever get off it!"
