The General Chat Thread (2024)

I’ve finally figured out what my main job is - it’s to bounce between Outlook and Teams, deleting a constant stream of emails in the former that have nothing to do with me, and marking as read a constant stream of chats in the latter that have nothing to do with me. That’s my job, apparently.

I get this - some days I feel like my job is Professional Email Sender.

Oh, more on the email thing: I decided to keep track yesterday, and between the hours of 7AM and 5PM, I received
exactly
3,961
emails, and I had need to reply to exactly
0
emails.

Me this morning: We ate too late last night and I had a really hard time sleeping. I still feel full.

Cracker Barrel: Try our new cinnamon roll pie!

Me: Does that come with extra frosting on the side?

There's a place less than 10 minutes away that makes cinnamon rolls nearly the size of a dinner plate, and just slathers on the frosting. It literally does make your teeth hurt, then puts you in a sugar coma. I started asking for the frosting on the side after the first time and the waitress said a lot of people do. Oh, you can also choose a caramel frosting or half-and-half.

We are in the twilight zone. For our first overnight on our 15 hour trip back to Ohio, I booked a hotel in Huntsville, Alabama at a Sheraton Marriott (paid with points) that is actually a part of the actual airport. Our room is weirdly above the terminal. What's also weird is it's the quietest airport and though we saw a few people milling about here and there and looking as if they just arrived off planes, we haven't heard any planes. It's also very clean, not just our room but all common areas as well. Feels very strange!

Ok here's what I mean. Has anyone ever seen an airport empty like this? This was around 9pm but there wasn't much more going on at 4:30pm when we got there.
