Ukraine

Wonderful -- State controlled media in Russia is now showing clips of Tucker Carlson from FOXnews. Basically, he is saying things like, "Biden has declared economic war on a Sovereign nation," continuing to blame the Biden Administration for what's happening in the Ukraine, and staging Putin as the victim.

Well, at least Tucker Carlson is free to say what he wants on the News in the USA. He wouldn't have that freedom in Russia. I wonder if he has given that any thought.

I wonder if the same US companies that withdrew from Russia are still buying advertising on Fox?

A lot of those companies didn't advertise on FOX, or at least not on Tucker Carlson's show before this.

Ultimately, his fate will be determined by ratings, and how much money he makes for FOX. Right now, he has enough followers and enough advertisers (like My Pillow) who target his followers, to stay viable.

As an American, I support freedom of speech, so I support Carlson's right to say what he wants -- within appropriate boundaries, of course. In the US, you can be blocked by social media, or be sued for knowingly spreading harmful misinformation, such as drinking bleach to cure Covid, or inciting violence.

It just chaps my a$$ that Tucker Carlson is helping the Russian propaganda machine. He has the right to do that, but it doesn't mean I can't wish he wouldn't do it.

I'm not sure what to make of this.

Ukraine-Russia war news live: 'Pretty good' peace talks held as Zelenskyy hints at NATO concession

An incredibly brave thing to do on a live news broadcast. I would have expected a much more severe punishment from the Russian authorities. Is it that they don't want to make her a focus, a martyr for the protest movement, or they will quietly remove her when everyone has moved on.
He's been hinting at that for a while but basically says that Ukraine will not submit unconditionally, so it's just more of the same it appears but you never know. I think if there is any actual concessions then Crimea and the Donbas will need to be conceded which sounds more like a divided Ukraine and if left to Zelensky, that'll never happen.

The link should have taken you to the piece about the sentencing of the news editor for her on air placard.

With regard to a peace deal, Zelensky did acknowledge earlier that Ukraine was not going to become a member of NATO, so perhaps a deal is on the way. Again today on US tv a defence analyst was suggesting that Russia has just ten days left to reach a conclusion before it runs out of ammunition, food and fuel.

Edit: link to BBC story of the protest, hope this works.

Yeah, I saw that but there's protesters for just about anything we could possibly talk about and this will be exploited for all it's worth , except maybe trade schools, they don't protest much.....just kidding. I also wouldn't hold much credence in a defense analyst to which there's many that would probably disagree. I just hope something happens soon because Putin is not going to stop and he will take Kiev imo.

You can almost imagine the conversation he´s going to have with his grandchildren in 20 year´s time.
" Grandad, what did you achieve as President of Russia?"
"I successfully dumped the country back in the Dark Ages. Now eat up your blinis with dripping, ok?"

Yes. Its interesting. This journalist was brave to protest on a news channel for which she works. In Russia, the sentence for even mentioning the word 'war' in relation to the current situation can be 15 years in prison. At the moment, she has been released with a fine. ITV news say this may be because she is a mother with children living with her. Apparently there are some waivers regarding motherhood. Its difficult to read the situation. Either there are more prosecutions in store for her or the Kremlin wants to damp down the story.

Let us not forget the other brave Russians who have protested on the streets.

Yeah, Zalensky is the rigid one. Putin obviously wants to make a reasonable deal, but Zalensky is clearly not ready to give up a third of his country in exchange for a promise not to take the whole country, which Putin has already said he plans to do.

Bad, bad Zalensky. Do a deal with Putin. What could possibly go wrong?

Yes, I also believe Putin wants to take Kiev - or what´s left of it.
However, the only thing he has achieved at the moment is convert Russia into an international pariah and set his country´s economy/progress back 60 years.

Putin is almost certainly going to be tried for war crimes, and probably found guilty. That means he will never be able to leave Russia. He will be a prisoner of his country's borders.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy delivered a virtual address to the US Congress where he called for further assistance from the U.S. and invoked Pearl Harbor, Martin Luther King Jr., and September 11th when discussing the Russian invasion. It was a great speech, delivered with a lot of passion. Real passion, not political drama.

There will be some who say his speech is the same as Putin's speeches... just more propaganda. But, listen to it. It is not the same. It is not coming from someone living in a bubble. Zelenskyy is talking from the trenches. He may be dead in a matter of days.

Sadly, that is quite possible.
I don´t think Zelensky, under different circumstances, would be considered a great world leader; but he´s risen to the challenge, done what he needed to do, shown he´s brave and fearless and retorted to Putin´s empty threats with action.
Plus he´s got a great sense of humour.
