Ukraine

Yes - it´s all very easy to say that, but so has Maduro in Venezuela, Ortega in Nicaragua, Kim in North Korea, and numerous dictators in Africa and the Middle East. Is the UN/the West supposed to intervene in every case?
None of the others are members of the G8, none of the others are on the UN Security Council. Yes the World should be doing more about the others, and tackling poverty*, an climate change, and many other things, but Russia sits at the top table and so must be held to the highest standards.

* As an aside, Elon Musk bought Twitter at an equivilent of $6 for every person alive today. Imagine if he had used that money to do some good instead of satisfying his own ego.

According to Sky News, Angelina Jolie is on a visit to Ukraine. Haven't the Ukrainians suffered enough?

Seriously, it's supposed to be some sort of UN ambassador thing, but it bothers me now that some of the rich and famous may start using this ghastly global crime as an opportunity to raise their profile.
Yup, Bono just rolled into town.

Will be a terribly winter for Europe, especially Germany. I'm wondering how the war will develop, after all the cruelty shown so far, it could be the beginning of world war 3.

It feels weird to be part of a big war, doing almost nothing and I don't know if I got more crazy, but I started motivating myself to be on the side against russia and with every productive day on work, russia got some issues, even if they're tiny.
Russia is still like family

With all due respect, I think you might be straying towards melodramatic. We´re not in a "big war" - just a war between Russia and Ukraine, and I don´t think any other country in the world is interested in escalating the conflict.
I also disagree that it will be a "terrible" winter for Europe (Europe is already putting contingency measures in place to substitute Russian gas) and "especially Germany". Germany is the 4th largest economy in the world, producing almost 4 TRILLION dollars a year, more than double that of Russia. 14 European countries are in the top 30 economies of the world.
And yes, Russia has got issues, and as from 25th February this year, they´ve got a whole lot more.
I see Russia losing more and more money on their ridiculous invasion (which is not going to plan) as well as all the money they´re ploughing into Syria, African states, Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela, and I see them getting very bogged down in Ukraine, just as they did in Afghanistan.

I tend to agree, mostly. Russia Putin bit off more than they he could chew. In the short term, Europe is going to get a raw deal due to gas prices, but it won't be permanent. Hopefully most of Europe will have a mild winter after this brutally hot summer.

The US is willing to help out with oil and gas. However, Saudi Arabia's corrupt Crown Prince is quietly taking Putin's side -- and we continue our perpetual "alliance" with the Saudis. It seems that all of our "allies" in the Middle-East are takers, not givers -- but that's a somewhat different topic.

Hey mate  maybe take a break from the news, it's better for anyone's mental health at the moment. I'm avoiding threads like these most of the time for the same reason.

Yes, we're in a recession. And things will be tough for a while. But hang on, Putin is losing big time and attacking more of the continent is just not feasible for him right now. Yes we might have a gas crisis if he shuts down the trade completely, but there are solutions. Chin up mate, world war 3 is getting more unlikely every day Putin is wasting his resources.

Already put a thought on that, but it's my moral beliefs that let me feel stressed. Putin and his allies have reasons for these barbaric attacks and I would like to know why did he do it. Couldn't they ''attack'' us with high quality products, rising economy, brilliant patented ideas to fight climate change and other good things to show russian power?
We might just not be educated enough to life without war

Good points there. Yeah, why use a military to be a superpower, when you could harness the power of people to build an economy that wins in the marketplace? Well, whether it is Putin or T****, ego gets in the way of good governing.

Putin is in a "Make Russia Great Again" mode, and by that, I mean resurrect the Soviet Union, a time of "greatness" in Putin's eyes. All the reasons he feeds his people for this war are BS, he's on an ego trip. He talks about NATO being a threat to his Soviet Un... I mean Russia, but his invasion of Ukraine inspired Sweden and Finland to join NATO. He is his own worst enemy.

Ukrainians need to win this war, and they are certainly willing to do it. I am in agreement with the US/NATO position of supplying them with the resources they need, and then letting them fight the war.

The big challenge will be getting the rest of the world to suck it up, and live with some of the economic fallout for what I think is a worthy cause.

That's the point I don’t get, his first attack was surprising for me, but not for CIA. He couldn't capture the capitol and now he's bombarding civilians. What would Russia get by capturing Ukraine, except more territory?
Am I late on this or is there now team China/Russia against team Western Society?

What is alarming to me about it, is that the Ukrainians are shelling the big nuclear plant. They cut the four high-capacity electrical wires servicing the facility too. If this continues a run-away situation can occur. It would make Chornobyl look like a child firecracker in comparison.

Russia says it's Ukraine shelling, the rest of the World says it's Russia. Who to believe?
