Unusual sandwich flavor combinations

Funny you mentioned the basil or pesto because I was thinking either of those would make an excellent substitute for the mint!

If you can find it fresh in an Asian market, try green shiso/perilla, or grow it, though it can be temperamental. To me, the flavor is a combo of mint, cilantro and basil.

And SSOP is right, there is a world of difference in fresh mint and that nasty mint jelly stuff.

Ever tried a mojito? Fresh mint is muddled in it. I always order a mojito made with tequila instead of rum at the high end Mexican place we visit sometimes.

Yeah, I have had mojitos before (with rum), I didn't love it. I have never tried mint jelly. I didn't know it was nasty but since I don't like mint very much, I never have wanted to try it. I was talking about fresh mint. My mom used to give it to us when we had bellyaches growing up and I have had it in iced tea before. It was okay like that I guess. I didn't care for it with lamb, though. I tend to gravitate towards oregano, basil, etc. as herbs for my lamb.

I like anchovies wedged in my lamb with rosemary mostly 🤤

I wonder if it’s possible to make a good sandwich (not a toasty just a sandwich) with anchovies?
They’re very strong so I wonder how you could work them in without it being a horror story? 😂

I'll send DH over, he loves anchovies. I do not.

Funny story:
DH used to own and operate a mulch business with his (now deceased) uncle. I would stop by occasionally to say hi while I was out running errands. DH was out on one of the machines in the mulch yard and I stopped into the office. Uncle Bill was eating some pizza. He offered me a piece and I asked, "What's on it?" He told me it was pepperoni and mushroom. It wasn't. It was pepperoni with slimy little stinky fish on it. I was traumatized!

Well that’s just a dirty rotten trick :laugh::laugh:

I had fresh anchovies, guts mostly cleaned out, but whole otherwise on a frutti di mar platter in Italy. They were okay, but I preferred the other seafood.

I use tinned ones to make Cesar dressing, but that's about it.

Egg salad, chicken salad maybe?

Or something like our deviled ham spread with pork or poultry and anchovies?

I’m another one who can’t stand fresh mint. It’s something about that earthy flavor it has…no. I think because it says “mint” I want it to taste like peppermint candy, and then you eat it and it tastes like a weed.
