What’s the next kitchen item you plan to buy?

I got THIS one!! I use it mainly to get a temperature reading of the heat at the vent. :whistling:

Now THAT is a gadget. Fluke is famous for making the best commercial digital multimeters on the planet. I have one. I even have a temperature probe for it. Not something I want to use as a meat thermometer however. I have an analog meat thermometer that doesn't need batteries.

I worked with a catering company last Wednesday and they had one. Oh boy, was that a great help with the dishes! we were cooking for 70, so a flash of the old infrared thermometer soon told us whether the food was hot enough to serve. Excellent device.

It is also expensive, costing upwards of about $180, but it's good!! A friend of mine bought it for me as a birthday gift!! :whistling:

Update on the glass straws.
I like them more than any of the other alternatives I’ve tried (silicone and stainless steel).
They are nice to drink out of, seem fairly robust (survived being pushed through a Perspex travel mug lid for using and survived being dropped), they are relatively inexpensive and they came out of the dishwasher clean 👍

I should add whilst they were clean, they had water marks on them but I’d expected that. Good enough that I don’t intend on handwashing them.
I’m satisfied I can see they’re are clean and I enjoyed using them so I think I’ve at last found a replacement for the plastic straws that I’m comfortable with 😊

Is it possible to crunch down on them with your teeth and break them? I am sure it can't be be! They wouldn't be sold if it were. Are they quite thick reinforced glass?

Next purchase a deep springform cake tin.

When MypinchofItaly asked for gluten free cake recipes I went searching for the chocolate one I have that works well.
I really could not find it but did have a vague memory of typing it.
So I did a did a file search in pages and 5 different hand typed chocolate cake recipes appeared! Oh flip, it’s been a long while, which one is it?!!!
Best check it’s the right recipe by making it before handing it over - cue the fun game of where’s my 20cm cake tin gone?!
It may have fallen foul of the utility cull when all dodgy looking tins got binned 🤷‍♀️

So yer cake tin ordered 👍
Hopefully nice chocolate cake to follow 😋

Medium thickness, certainly not thick but not flimsy borosilicate style either.
I haven’t crunched down on them but did nibble at the end a bit like you do with straws when you’re fiddling and that was fine.
I preferred the feel of them in my mouth to the paper/silicone/stainless steel alternatives.

Exactly how robust they are I couldn’t say for sure, it’s too early to say anything about to overall longevity too but they’re robust enough to satisfy me they are worth a go.

Obviously no other material is going to satisfy like a plastic straw that you can bite and it springs back into shape but as the alternatives go this is my favourite so far.

I've been looking for these for quite a while now, finally found them

These are magnetic lights!
I wanted them for over my stove top

Those stupid little lights they have on the backside of the range hood is useless!!!
These are great, lighting up the entire stove top!

Your extractor fan looks very close to your hob, I hope that doesn’t need too much cleaning 😂

I think the photo might be a bit destined by the camera lens. It looks slightly stretched making things look wider and therefore the height looks reduced. But I don't know.

Many may think I am slovenly when I say this, but I haven't ever cleaned the cooker hood/extractor fan in my kitchen...

Perhaps.
But it’s more or less in line with the bottom of the cabinets and they tend to end much lower down to the surface than the extractor fan 🤷‍♀️

My practice is…if I can’t see it, it doesn’t need cleaned.

It’s how I’ve come to live with my bald spot…it’s more in the back, so I can’t see it; therefore, it’s not there.
