TVC made a bacon and mushroom risotto

I had smoked salmon in a sourdough roll with mayo.

To go with this, I tried out a side dish recipe - Cauliflower Couscous (with sundried tomato and chopped black olives). It was OK - a bit soggy (fried off but maybe not used enough oil or blitzed too much). A work in progress! I think it would go well with chopped walnuts.

There is Harvest Festival in the late summer - its mainly a Christian religious festival so as most of us are not practising Christians over here it doesn't really get celebrated. Well, at least no-one I know celebrates it. I think schools still celebrate it - traditionally it was celebrated by people bringing produce to church which would then be distributed to the poor. I'm sure this still happens in most churches here - but as I say, not many people attend church in the UK.
I think a lot of schools celebrate Harvest Festival and the children bring donations of food for local distribution or more recently in our school they bring in a monetary donation for a relevant charity (food relief).

I am well aware of this! @MypinchofItaly was in Scotland and didn't like haggis but does like black pudding. I was merely pointing out that not all black pudding is good and not all haggis is bad.

Absolutel

Looks very interesting @creative . Do you think adding -if you have of course-some fresh mint leaves and some little slices of cucumber could works for you?

The recipe suggested sundried toms, olives and cucumber. I am not a fan of mint but I chopped up some flat leaf parsley into it.

Bbq joints in the southeast usually offer cornbread, but yes, everywhere else is usually rolls. I forgot about breadsticks with Italian or French food.
Or pumpernickel or rye with German and Eastern European food.

Oh and tonight's menu has changed. It will be sirloin, homemade bread, broccoli (maybe) and baked beans. I might still do a potato.

I just want to say ouch. @Yorky mentioned @morning glory 's typo and she comes back with she uses a slicer for more than onions.
Guys you might want to stay away from morning glory if she is in the kitchen.

Did I do a typo? I think @Yorky was referring to the fact that he won a 'mandolin' in the last Spice Challenge and then proceeded to slice into his finger the first time he used it (he wasn't using the guard). Mind you, I often do typos.

A massive boiguh here today, courtesy of the Sports dept..

To build the burger: bun bottom, burger patty, slice o cheddar cheese, burger patty, slice o cheddar, red onion, tomato lettuce, butter sauteed mushrooms, slice o bacon, a squirt of ketchup and mayo, and the bun top.

Side of baked crisps, and a diet iced tea (gotta eat healthy, you know).

Nice combination of flavours - but I have to day I'm not sold on cauliflower 'cous-cous'. Its one of those health trends (lower cals than real cous-cous). I'd rather just have cauliflower florets with olives and sun-dried tomato.

Brought home some left over pork cutlets from today's lunch special. I am going to make schnitzel out of them. And, of course, I have to have spaetzel with that. Bring on the carbs....the three pilsners won't hurt, either...
