What did you cook/eat today (May 2017)?

Tonight we are eating at Cindy's diner. Chef Wes is making Italian Pork Tenderloin. Baker Oscar will be making rolls later. I think I will have Dexter or Ben make some potatoes. Ben is Wes' twin brother. Chef Mike will make either broccoli or Brussels Sprouts.

Are anchovies Greek style? I just found that surprising. To me, Greek salad is feta, capers, olives, cucumbers, tomatoes. It could be my ignorance...

A Greek salad here usually has lettuce, tomatoes, red onion, green bell pepper, cucumbers, feta, kalamata olives, oregano, dolmas, and anchovies with a red wine or lemon/garlic viniagrette. Occasionally you may get caperberries.

We're still working our way through the broaster chicken, so I made a big salad for each of us. Hubby doesn't care how his looks, but I thought I would try and make mine all pretty. The baby spinach and butter lettuces are hidden by raw mushrooms, carrots, radishes, cold beets, tri-color tomatoes, and a dusting of goat cheese. I used a honey thyme balsamic vinaigrette - hence the dark stains. Egg, too, because we have lots of them.

I have just checked various sources and can't find any mention of anchovies here. I would think that given there is feta (that is salty) the anchovies would add too much of a salty taste. I wonder if they are 'traditionally' used in Greece.

I looked it up, and apparently the addition of anchovies, pickled pepperoncinos, and dolmas /dolmades is a Greek American thing. It's not uncommon here to take a perfectly good ethnic dish and modify it to our tastes. That happens all the time with Italian and Chinese dishes. They iften get an American spin.
I'm not one to eat a lot of salty food, but because of the use of "watery" chopped lettuce and fresh veggies, I don't find the addition of anchovies with feta too salty. The feta was very mild.
Actually, I didn't add very much red wine viniagrette because the salad can almost stand on its own without being boring.

I like goat cheese on salad :okay:

I've never had it as a bread. I've had aloe drinks, and I've eaten the pulp of raw aloe (which is like a mouthful of mucus), but in a bread sounds interesting.

I bought in an organic shop and this bread is specific for teeth and Gingives, digestion and light. I also had aloe drink, every day. Maybe I have to wait for effects..
