What did you cook/eat today (October 2017)?

George belongs to a Bass Fishing Club. Catch and release. They have fishing tournaments through out the year in lakes, rivers, reservoirs and swamps in Louisiana and east Texas.

Three times each year the guys will host a function for the wives and girl friends. January - annual banquet. Spring - crawfish boil. Fall - fish fry.

Tuesday George let me know that the annual fish fry would be Thursday evening. Sounds good to me. I have not had fried fish since 4th of July weekend.

2 p.m. yesterday - Thursday - George asked if I would "bring something" to the fish fry. Like what? Ummm maybe a desert? :hyper:

He was thinking about the everything lemon, lemon cake that I made for the spring crawfish boil. NOT going to happen - that took all day.

The guys fry fish, French fries and hush puppies. Everything fried.

I suggested oven roasted veggies. Mainly so George could have a side dish. He did not like that idea and suggested a salad.

Sigh. I had veggies that could be roasted but not nearly enough salad fixings.

Run to the store for mixed greens and both red and yellow grape tomatoes. I had Blue Cheese and red seedless grapes in the fridge.

Cut the tomatoes and grapes in half lengthwise. Toss with a huge bowl of mixed greens, crumbled Blue Cheese, EVOO and Balsamic vinegar.

I really wanted to take a photo but time got away from me.

There was not a scrap of salad left in the bowl. The guys loved it and asked me to give the recipe to their wife/girlfriend. Seriously?

I gave the recipe to George to e-mail to his buds. They are all big boys and can make it on their own.

Sorry guys. There are times when the "good ole boy" mentality gets on my last nerve.

Teaser

An assortment of peppers flame roasted and cooling.

2 lbs. Venison - cubed, seasoned with sea salt and fresh ground pepper - resting

6 strips thick sliced Applewood smoked bacon cooked until crisp.

Is this a challenge? It sounds like the makings of a great dish. Kebabs?

Scrambled eggs on toast - see also here.

Well, it was roast duck for dinner tonight, with boiled potatoes, roast potatoes, carrots, peas, Yorkshire puddings, and lashings of gravy. The three cats and the mutt all had a bit of the duck too, especially the birthday girl.

No photos? :(
@morning glory

No challenge - just messing with you.

Everything is in the pot. The aroma is driving George crazy. Every time I turn my back he sneaks into the kitchen for a taste.

Will post pictures and recipe.

I am very gullible! I look forward to the photos - and the recipe.

Tofu doesn't appeal to me at all. I wonder whether it could be adapted to use paneer instead? Paneer doesn't really have any flavour of its own, so it wouldn't taste cheesy.

I'm sure potatoes could be substituted for tofu?
