Lunch, with a bottle of wine:
Yeah, that's our weather most of the time where I live. I can't let hubby cook a steak on the grill anymore unless I want half of it to be shoe leather and other parts of it to be perfect and/or too rare.My plan to smoke a rack of ribs was vetoed by Mother Nature. It hasn't rained at my house, but there are rain showers all around. But, the wind is also high today, which makes it difficult to maintain a steady heat for low and slow cooking. Wind blows down the top vent and messes up the convection.
Maybe tomorrow.

You did it how I would do it. It seems pretty senseless to cook it separately!Beef-barley stew/soup/stoup:

There’re split peas in there as well, and I used the two rib roast bones left over from Christmas to flavor things up as well.
Here’s the funny bit…I remembered seeing a recipe for beef-barley stew in an Irish cookbook I have, so I went through the ingredients, but I didn’t read the instructions, because hey, it’s soup, it’s pretty standard, right?
Got everything together, including my beef bones, then I started reading the instructions, which called for three pots (basically, they were cooking the meat, broth/barley/veg, and potatoes separately, then assembling at the end), and I thought, “I’m not doing all that,” and just made it like a standard soup, and it turned out fine.
I love dungeness crab! For today's meal, I treated myself to Dungeness Crab.
