Lau Lau, yes, if you can get Taro Leaves you could create the Lau Lau and the final step of wrapping it in Ti Leaves could be sub'd for Banana Leaves, not quite the same flavor profile, but I do that with my Kalua Pork.
As to
Luau, this is made only with Taro Leaves (or sometimes referred to in Hawaii as Luau Leaves) and then the flavorings, into for lack of a better term, a stew. Usually
Luau is made with Octopus or Calamari or Chicken, Beef or even Pork... and as I mention to
The OMWC it can go totally Vegetarian and still be ONO!!!
