What did you cook or eat today (April 2025)?

Tried to make briyani rice today from a YouTube recipe; it was OK but it didn't quite nail that je ne sais quoi of the restaurant or takeaway versions. This is one of those dishes that continues to elude me...

Curry is a beef rogan josh that I make my usual way.

I'm with you there. They tell you that the secret is to cook the rice 2/3rds of the way, and then assemble, then completely seal the lid with a strip of pastry, etc.
Mine never tastes the same as the Curry Inn!
 
It was a silly idea using tortilla's in a bread 'thins' crimpet maker to use up lamb casserole left overs. Chuck a bit of diced tomato and gherkin in there and suddenly the leftovers were very filling.

I left the tortilla edges on so the contents didn't spill out when baked and it worked.
I am totally done in now though and have had to lie down! 😮😆
 
Unfortunately, yes. I don't hate them as much as liver (which I will not allow in the house and will never cook--thankfully DH doesn't like it) but I would cook a sweet potato for him. I just won't eat it.

No thank you. I have tried all kinds of liver, as I was the only person in a household of 8 people growing up who didn't like it. Well my brother closest to me in age didn't like it and won't eat it as an adult, but he just wanted to get it over with so he would wolf it down while I was still sitting for hours at the table until I fell asleep on my plate of liver. I have tried fried chicken livers, liverwurst, and so forth, and I think it's all disgusting. People used to rave about my mother's liver and onions. Apparently it was something she knew how to cook well. After a couple times she gave up on trying to make me eat it and I got peanut butter and jelly, which I was quite happy about.

Don't even get me started on hot dogs and bologna!

I get you on the hot dogs and bologna, UPF's for sure. I like the flavor of Vienna Sausages and endeavored one time to make some. They were like hot dog sized and tasted great and *didn't* look, or have the mouthfeel, of extruded meat whiz. I should make some more.
