Wholegrain toast and turkey salami. Early breakfast.

Last night it was lunch leftovers, meatloaf, rice and a nice mixed salad, lettuce, raddichio.

it is Faschnigtime, Mardi <gras time, so my daughter asked for Krapfen, with fruit jam filling. They sell in a package of 10. She says, no problem.

I agree. I used to love them in all variations. I think I made them from scratch only once. The ones I bought are apparently very good. It was a busy week, so, no way to do that at home. But, yes!

I had to look Krapfen up. It looks like what we call Jelly Doughnuts in the US. I don't know if the dough is the same, but the method of making them is the same.

Yes, I think those would be donuts, but without a hole in the center. They are slightly flattened balls.

Internet zadovoljna.hr pic. This is how they are here. I would need to check and compare doughs and methods.
Actuall they are on offer all year round, very popular. But traditionally they are carnival food. We call them, influenced by the German original Krafne, but the Croatian name indicates the carnival tradition Pokladnice, POklade being the carnival festival.

On a cold February evening a spicy chilli con carne with dipping bread is difficult to beat.

Unfortunately, the temperature was 33°C at 17:30!

Never mind, it tasted good.

(No image as it looked like every other chilli con carne that I've photographed).
