What did you cook or eat today (February 2025)

Recipe - Mexican shrimp cocktail/gazpacho (sort of) with saffron

This is called 'Bak Kut Teh' (lit. "meat bone tea") and is a southern Chinese herbal soup found widely in Singapore and Malaysia that has copious amounts of pepper and garlic, within which some pork ribs are boiled. This variant has some chopped daikon radish which wouldn't normally go in, but I had to use it up. It's very delicious.

This is some soy sauce braised chicken; in this case I'm using boneless thighs. The chicken is poached for a short while in a mixture of light and dark soy, Shaoxing wine, rock sugar and some aromatics/spices. After that I slice it and serve it over rice.

The one I have now beeps if you leave food in it. Great for not discovering your baked potato next week! 😆
Mine beeps too. It's over the stove so when the inside light burned out we didn't replace the bulb (stupid expensive just to watch food revolve inside). Hoping the sound eventually quits working lol.
