What did you cook or eat today (January 2023)?

If I'm visiting a country for work or pleasure, I'll eat what's on the menu (if I can read the menu, that is). If I move to live in another country as I did in Malaysia, China and Thailand, I'll supplement local food with my own style (which most likely will consist of potatoes).

I had planned to braise some short ribs today, but Kroger was out of some of the produce I needed. I should have driven the extra five miles to H-E-B. Anyway, I didn't want to go to two stores, so I'm putting it off by a day or two.

Roasted chicken breast, green beans, mashed potatoes, and gravy.

On one of my short visits to China doing some work for CNOOC, they booked me into a hotel which was 100% Chinese. The restaurant menu was written in Chinese and no-one spoke other than Mandarin. I vaguely remembered how to pronounce chowfan and the waitress obviously understood me because I received fried rice. I had chowfan for breakfast and dinner for 4 days!

I made a chickpea & rice casserole, served with raita and some weird vegan loaf thing that we bought before Christmas for the 'ham' challenge, but it wasn't suitable. It had a 2nd Feb expiry date on it, so we thought we'd better use it. It's OK, and 1 slice contains 12g of protein. Hubby had more because I have a protein shake for lunch at the moment. Stops me get malnutrition when I diet and it actually tastes reasonable to be honest.

Hot honey is a wonderful thing with fried chicken. :okay:

Speaking of, I don't have any anymore, but there was a company I found on Facebook that sold hot honey (as in spicy) and it was incredible. I don't remember the name.

I just mix either hot sauce or cayenne chili powder to honey. I don't have measurements, I just add and taste until I like it.
