What did you cook or eat today (January 2025)

Yesterday I slipped on a piece of cardboard and came a cropper.
Landed hard on my sternum on the edge of a kitchen chair and by jove my chest is so sore today. Even breathing is painful! So if you’re wondering why my toast is cut into little squares it’s so I don’t have to move as much! 😂

Really I wanted a poached egg but I didn’t want to handle another pan so I polished off the vegan Camembert.
It was as odd as it looks but I enjoyed it anyway! 😂

A screen shot of the cheese I used because if you know a vegan in the UK this and some crackers would make a superduper gift.

Ouchie that's awful! Are you going to have it checked out?

Thanks yes it is a bit ouch!
No I’m not getting it checked yet just because it’s entirely central and I didn’t feel anything crack, even if it did hairline fracture they wouldn’t do anything for it anyway.
The general rule of thumb is after 3 (or sometimes 4) days if it’s improving it’s unlikely to be broken, if it gets worse then yes you may have broken something. So I’ll wait see how it goes.
It’s really hampering my tea drinking though and that feels quite serious 😂

Yikes, I hope that eases up soon. Sometimes, that bruising like that can take forever to get over.
Thanks TR. It does feel like it might take sometime. Usually I’m good at falling, my forearm (not hand) automatically goes out to break the fall but the cardboard accelerated it to such an extent I hit the chair before I could help myself!
Glad I’ve been taking my vitamin D 😁

Well hoping Mr. SSOAP is feeling well enough to help you out a little bit. Don't overdo it!

Thanks, he had physio yesterday and they told him in no uncertain terms that apart from the exercises they gave him he is not to use his arm at all and it must stay immobilised in a sling for another two weeks minimum! We look like a couple of right old cronks!

You need to get in a big sack, with his bad arm to the inside, and then you can be a sort of two-headed thing, but with the use of two good arms between you.

…and it’s hard to believe I’m not a doctor, huh?

So long as I don’t try to move my arms away from my body all is well but I like the sack idea, I’ll run it by Mr SSOAP see if he wants to take Dr Tasty’s advice 😂

I honestly didn't think of it as a new recipe. We had some of the liquid left over from the miso pickled mushrooms and after putting it through a sieve, I added 1cm cubes of tofu and key it for several days. It completely changed the texture and taste and was quite a surprise.
Firm tofu, squeezed?
Maybe I can use my pickled egg brine.

Just don’t scar the kids:

“Mum…why are you and Papa…in that…sack?”

“Never you mind and you just move along now.”

Dr Tasty 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I’ve had many nicknames over my life, both at home and at work, and when I was stationed at Randolph AFB in San Antonio, everyone called me “Dr. Hartley” at the office, based on the Bob Newhart character, because everyone would come to me for advice…which more often than not was, “You two should get in a big sack…”

Feeling a little tiny bit sorry for myself and my inability to move my arms so I ordered chicken wings from Morrisons via Deliveroo.
Of course whenever I order wings they never turn up so this time I ordered two different brands to ensure I got at least one and then to be certain some junk would arrive I ordered ‘Leon’ chicken nuggets.

Well again neither wings came (wings seem to be an item that’s perpetually out of stock no matter who you order them from) but the nuggets made it. Big pieces of actual chicken in a very crunchy crumb. I’ve always liked the Leon restaurants because they do so much that’s gluten and dairy free, glad they’ve broken into the supermarkets with their own brand.

Had spicy mayo and gherkin relish with it.

MrsT is off to get some Chinese takeout for us. Here’s how the ordering process went:

“Let me know what you want and I’ll go get it.”
“I just want chicken fried rice and a spring roll.”
“I was thinking chicken fried rice, but the crispy noodles look good, too. Would you eat the crispy noodles?”
“Why would I eat crispy noodles? I’m getting chicken fried rice.”
“I’m just asking, that’s all. Geez!”
“No you’re not. You want both, so now you’re planning on taking half my fried rice and you’re trying to figure out a way to stick me with half your noodles!”

I don’t like it one bit. STEP AWAY FROM MY FOOD 😂
