Leftover chicken meatballs and brown rice for lunch:

Look at all those colors…the browns…the light browns…the tans and beiges…it’s a veritable rainbow!

This is the first time, believe it or not, that I’ve ever eaten brown rice (AFAIK). MrsT loves plain white rice, and fried rice, but she abhors brown rice, so I’ve never used it, since I’m pretty ambivalent about rice.

She’s talked down brown rice for so long, disparaging it every chance she got, that I was surprised I actually like it. Unlike plain white rice, brown rice has just a little bit of flavor hiding out in there. I found it to be quite nice.

Coincidencentally I cooked brown rice for my dinner last night. I like it quite a lot. It has a nutty taste. Its also more forgiving to cook as you can toss it water and then drain it rather than measuring out the water.

But what did MrsT think about the brown rice you cooked?

I made some “crepesadillas” with crepes from the freezer. Filled with asparagus, roasted tomatoes, an egg, and just a dusting of Parmesan.

The first time I ever ate brown rice was on Essaouira beach in 1971. I didn't eat it again until around 2005. Not that I disliked it just that I didn't come across it.

Our brown rice doesn’t look anything like that black stuff.

I made gado gado tonight. Yellow rice, roasted sweet potato rounds, steamed broccoli, red peppers, and hard-boiled eggs, topped with a spicy peanut sauce. I selected this dish based on a strict set of criteria, namely, I happened to have all the ingredients on hand.

After a night of repeated asthma attacks, I wasn't up to much today, including shipping or cooking, so hubby cooked. He missed the emphasis on spaghetti!
