What did you cook or eat today (June 2022)?

I would not ever. Those people are only reheating food from a central kitchen elsewhere, it's not on them. Food comes here with a truck.

I actually had some food made on location in the hospital this past week. It was actually pretty good. The breakfast omelet was quite good. Definitely fresh cooked.

The had meals set up like hotel room service. No "meal time".

Of course the price for this last week will be on par with a five-star hotel, too.

It better be! I know the premiums you pay for healthcare in the US..

Though I must say, the myth that our Dutch healthcare is free is not true. We pay a monthly premium of about 200 euros each in our household, plus a yearly 'own risk' fee of 385 euros a person, and we also have to contribute to our medicine costs. It's cheaper than the US for sure, but definitely not free.

For this recent hospital stay I have to pay nothing for my stay, but I do have to pay in full for my medication.

it looks more like wild rice, which isn't even actually rice, it is from a grass. The two are often called the same thing.

I thought it looked like black rice (also known as purple rice) or forbidden rice (only for the emperor) rather than wild rice. There is also red rice.

Not sure if it is black glutinous rice or just black rice.

As far as I know that rice is called "Thai Jasberry rice".

Had to look that up but it's a variety purple Jasmine rice. Might have to have a hunt for some. I love different rice (what's the plural? Spell check us refusing rices!). I've 7 or 8 varieties at home as it is and Thai food is really easy to get here. I've lots of packaging where I have to rely on the camera in the phone to translate what the contents are! The best rice flour is on one of those packages.

I'm ashamed to admit I was doing similar calculations in my head last night with our meal...
I like to do this with our evening meals and see how low I can get the price to feed us two.
I also compare so what eggs cost at the market last week as to this week... last week I bought 18 large eggs for $3.97, yesterday it was $4.97
I'm going to have to cut back on baking as well eggs for breakfast...

Paniolo Chili.jpg

I've got a Dutch oven on the cook-top full of this, what I call Paniolo (that's Hawaiian for Cowboy) Chili.
It has Ground Beef, Bacon and Linguica along with the usual characters.
I'll stash it in the cold box for a coupla days to marry nicely and then serve it this way with steamed White Rice as we do in Hawaii.
