What did you cook or eat today (March 2025)

Ate at a reopened-under-new-management place last night. Food was…meh, but the environment was horrible.

MrsT had chicken-fried steak - gravy was thin and while the mashed potatoes were homemade, I swear they were made with water.

I had a pizza steak sandwich, common/signature dish for this area - preformed seasoned steak patty topped with pizza sauce, pepperoni, and cheese.

Well, this was the first time I had it made with loose meat, like a sloppy joe. It was fine, but very messy.

Room was one big space, almost like a hotel banquet room, with a bar over here and a small stage over there. A 178yo man was hosting trivia, and his mic kept feeding back. Considering the chairs were all padded metal and the floor was hard tile…it was crazy noisy, with every sound bouncing off the walls, floor, and ceiling.

We couldn’t talk, everything had to be shouted, including our orders and any conversations with the server.

Ouch.

I don’t think I could have tolerated mince sold as steak but once you’ve ordered you’re committed so thats that.
Anyhow it sounds like it won’t be a revisit any time soon!

SandwichShortOfAPicnic loves loose meat sandwiches...

Baked potato (butter, sour cream, and cheese) and steamed cabbage, along with some Spanish chorizo.

The potatoes were something MrsT saw on FB/TikTok - halved lengthwise, oiled, salted, peppered, then baked for a mere 30 minutes cut side down, then flipped and a few minutes under the broiler/grill, to yield a baked potato with a crispy potato face. Seemed to work, it was good.
