What did you cook or eat today (November 2021)?

Today's meal is something I like well enough to repeat from time to time, - penne with sun dried tomato pesto.

Have you thought of grilling/ broiling?
My wife loves it that way.

Russ
No, broiled once in the oven and my “smoke detector yelled at me”. Then after that, each time I turned my oven on, the detector yelled again. Some reasons my oven broiler is too hot and it makes the detector sensitive. Drives me nuts that I can’t use broiler. So from that day onward, we cook bacon on the skillet or pan..everything went well and we can have bacon again without “ something” yelling back at us 😛

I have 2 doors between my alarms. I have to close them before grilling. I have 3 screamers as well lol

Hahah…We’re in an apartment, so can’t really do much about the screamers and the oven. Sadly..hahah.. Sometimes I just wanna yell back ” I’m Just Cooking”!! Leave Me Alone & Stop Yelling! 😂😂

look on the brightside, at least you know it works.
Ours failed to go off with a chimney fire despite being checked professionally each year (part of the service on the tenancy!).

Afternoon!

Hummus is a regular feature in this house as 4/4 of us eat it. I used to have to add a lot of garlic & parsley to convince my OH but he’s a hummus eater now.

When I make it at home I often add a very small amount of tahini (or none at all) & then yogurt instead of oil. We eat it with crudités mostly. Of instead of butter on chicken & lettuce sandwich’s.

Screamers! Mine just went off while I was making Sichuan style hot dry noodles for brunch.

I was starving as I hadn’t yet broken my fast & ive been packing my kitchen up since 8am, drinking tea, mostly almost cold. You all know how that is.

I added kimchi, ham & crispy fried egg to the dish because I’m trying to get rid of some things - like preserved mustard stems, kimchi, pickles & dark roasted sesame paste & sesame oil. Basically things that might leak & make life harder next weekend.

The light is weird today. Overcast. Bright.
Very windy. Cold. Not nice at all.

Oh Wow…that is scary… Yeah, here check annually too and fire alarm testing every 3 to 4 weeks. The next check is this coming Thursday.

I check mine about 3 times a year.
Smoke the silent killer.

Russ
It had been tested and battery replaced less than 4 months before. They clean the sensors then actually test it witha taper flare (match) and allow it to sound rather than just pressing a button... if the sensor fails to work, pressing the button will still sound the alarm making you think it is Ok when it actually isn't.

my asthma is more sensitive than most smoke detectors. I had actually commented to the fire brigade cheif who was onsite for the whole thing that It was my asthma that altered me to the fire - query if we had a smoke alarm because he hadn't heard it and with what he had smelt when he first entered the house, it should have been going off. He even went and pressed the button to test it and it went off... his conclusion was to throw it away as faulty and he'd happily tell our landlord that - he knew them personally.
