My partner always requests Black Forest cake for his birthday and bottled sour cherries have been in short supply here. I found a can in an Iranian market but they still had seeds in them. I de-seeded for the layers of course but left the ones on top whole for presentation. I often use the bright red ones with stems on for presentation but I could not be bothered to hunt them down.

Happy birthday to your partner, and that cake is gorgeous. My wife loves Black Forest Cake. We have one from Aldi in the freezer right now, though yours is much better, I'm sure.

But...but...I was all ready to talk about how the sweetness of the ham acted as a culinary foil to the spiciness of the salami! I was! 👨‍🍳
