What did you eat or cook today (December 2024)?

So they didn't have chips/fries and broccoli was your option? Or, they had chips/fries but you actually chose to eat broccoli instead? I am thinking the first...
The latter…I’m trying to have something “colorful” every day to make up for my morning pound of potatoes.

It helps that I love broccoli, and that broccoli was drenched in garlic butter, so that was even better.

Anyone know what the tomato is that was developed specifically for the premade sandwich industry?
I believe it’s seedless and is mostly flesh so as not to make the bread wet. I heard them talking about it on the radio but can’t remember the name or find it!
It must be a myth or it just hasn't hit our markets yet because the tomatoes I get on sandwiches around here are pulpy, pale, and pink with plenty of seeds and no flavor. Which is why I always get my burgers and sandwiches at restaurants with no tomatoes. Not worth the risk of soggy bread, not to mention a flavorless tomato can ruin all the other toppings!

TVC is back

It was radio fours food programme and they take their programming seriously.
The sandwiches we get with tomatoes in here don’t have seeds and aren't wet so I reckon someone out there knows 😂

Wouldn't they be GMO? Do you guys allow that over there? I know in the USA GMO products are common so really odd our restaurants and grocery stores don't have them.

Yes we have gmo but it’s not popular.
The tomatoes aren’t gmo it was simple old fashioned selective crossbreeding of existing tomatoes 👍

Yes indeed, but when you want a thin slice of tomato on your sandwich they (grape/cherry) aren't very cooperative. I have made tomato and roasted garlic aioli from grape tomatoes (cherry tomatoes are a bit too pulpy for that) and that's delicious on a turkey and bacon sandwich.

At any rate, I never put my tomatoes in the refrigerator. There are people who say that they don't lose any flavor, and maybe that's true (I think they do taste different after refrigeration when they are ripe), but the texture certainly seems to change. It seems like they get mushy and watery.

I keep mine out on the counter. This year was rough for tomatoes so I kept them in a box since I was picking them early. Rained for a month straight so they weren't getting ripe and splitting like crazy; oodles of aphids to boot..
