My grandad would say, “I’ll have that one on the right, please.”
She's the younger of the two, so more tender meat I'd guess. Her name is Rat-tail (she has no hair on her tail). The one on the left is her mom, Half-tail (someone bit her tail in half and she has a little white tuft of fur that grew in at the end) and she's about 6 years old. I'd bet gramps would've had to cook her a bit longer. How those two have evaded the hawks that hunt in our backyard is beyond me, because Rat-tail is downright dumb (I suspect inbreeding in the squirrel colony).
Later, there will be several more squirrels out there: Doofus, Homer, Bubba, Booger, and Bully (Bully, obviously, is rather mean and chases everyone else so they can't get peanuts and seeds). We have two squirrels with only one-eye. One of them is named "One-eye". The other one we call Ahab. And then there will be Blondie, our resident chipmunk. We had like 5 chipmunks out there but I won't feed the others and I think the hawk may have gotten them, that or a cat, because I haven't seen them in a few weeks.
What's really funny is that not only do they all have names, I can tell them apart! Also, Half-tail and One-eye both know their names and will come when I call them. So does Blondie.
Hubby went to pick up a loaf of bread so I can make them peanut butter sandwiches later on.
What's not making me smile: taxes. I am doing them right now and I am going to have to pay Uncle Sam this year again. UGH.
Edited to add that I finished my taxes! So now I am going to have a cocktail (it's almost 5 o'clock) to celebrate! YAY!
