What produce/ingredients did you buy or obtain today (2025)?

Picked up 2kg’s of diced beef for a planned slow cooker Goulash (Hungarian Goulash to our American friends) on Thursday because it sounds like the boys are going to appear wanting homey comfort food.
But what with them being young and free you never actually know as their plans will suddenly change! Aah remember those heady days.

Bought some lovely looking mushrooms and chantennay carrots.
Waitrose really are knocking it out of the park on the produce front.
They’ve always been the best cooks place to shop for ingredients but recently the disparity between the usual supermarkets and Waitrose has widened considerably. They have become even more of the foodies supermarket than before.

I wandered in there knowing there was no chance of picking up Cavolo Nero as it’s a relatively small supermarket and in a location that’s not the most delightful area to see lots of beautiful looking leaves shouting out.
Shame their usually discerning taste falls so short on their tiny gluten free selection!

But they also do these great wings that are always out of stock, apart from today, FOUR packs, I bought them all, winner winner chicken dinner 😊

This is getting bad.
Bloomin'eck!!
I bought a tray of 30 for just over $5.

$0 here for as many as you can find in the fridge, kitchen and garden
This price takes into account the fact that one of my chooks has taken to laying her eggs up a tree. It helps if you're around when she's lain because she sings out aloud for some time to announce the new arrival before she works out how to get out of the tree.

Hmm that looks like a nice little browse around the supermarket!
I’m interested in the ‘London Pub Malt Vinegar’ is it actually malt vinegar?
They all switched over to ‘non brewed condiment’ over two decades ago, can’t remember the last time I saw real vinegar on the table, maybe in my childhood 😂
Then again the pubs and cafes that used to put vinegar on the table are all but gone now.

Wow, vinegar is a thing over here. You can even get it at a gas station. Y'all can't get vinegar??? Ever consider making your own??? Sounds like a kitchen experiment with some beer and a vinegar mother.

So thanks to cookingb*.com I saw the British flag and bought...

We have vinegar coming out of our ears and malt vinegar is popular but you’re very unlikely to see it in a cafe, fish n chip shop or pub anymore.
Fish n chips shops use non brewed condiment and in a pub it’s more likely to be a balsamic and olive oil set now we’re all so much more sophisticated 🙄😂

Time for your 2 oz. bottle of malt in your pannier. (Oops, don't have that yet... 🤫)

Oh gawd, the pannier thing. I finally found some which are double what I’d like to pay but I’’m desperate now and they’re out of stock!
So I watch a few you tube reviews on them and an American guy who’s got some and is reviewing them says it’s taken him 9 months to find anything suitable for his bike. So faster than me but still not ideal!

Now I’m conversing with an old British leather workshop who have been making satchels since the 60’s. Even though they’re members of the Guild of Master Craftsmen it will likely work out cheaper to have something bespoke made than pay the stupid prices they demand for panniers. They are sending me leather samples so fingers crossed.
Two panniers for the Indian are £1500. They aren’t even that nice so that one can definitely wait!!!

Anyways I suppose in some vague form that’s produce I’d like to obtain, even if it’s not food 😜 The prices they charge they should come with a lifetime supply of vinegar.
