What produce/ingredients did you buy or obtain today (2025)?

It would cost more to post it than she's paying at the store.
I was simply pointing out that you can and people do put eggs in the post (and they do hatch as well, just not in the postal system). So it's not impossible.

I'm also if the opinion that chickens lives are worth more than most people seem to think they are and the cost of eggs does not come close to reflecting the costs of keeping chickens or even paying half of their feed costs. Personally I have no issues with the cost of eggs increasing.

Why can't you?

I often buy fertile eggs through the postal system. Each egg needs to be wrapped individually and then put back in the egg box before the egg box is wrapped extensively. But if it can survive the Australian postal system, I'm sure it could survive the American system.
They’d have to be shipped refrigerated, since our eggs are washed.

Put in a food delivery for tomorrow with two dishes that require a weeny bit of input in the kitchen (I’m already looking forward to those two days) so a lot of fast, easy to cook stuff that Mr SSOAP can help with or do himself.

A new nitrite free bacon though which I’m exited about, look forward to seeing how it ‘fries’ in the instant pot.

Of course you have to bear in mind all these nitrite free ‘natural’ products use concentrated vegetable extracts like celery which act as a preservative and breaks down in the body to.. you guessed it 😂
But it’s still supposed to have less impact so I’ll give it a whirl until I get my smoker and make my own bacon 👏

And this from Amazon

Because mace is no longer readily available. According to Google maybe some Sainsburys supermarket still do but not the one here and the Sainsburys here is large with and enormously profitable so 🤷‍♀️
Even Bart spices no longer sell mace!

So I went for whole blade because I’ll know I’m getting the real deal. I’m always dubious about buying spices from unknown brands as they often aren’t everything they say they are, and sometimes they’re a whole lot more than they say they are that you really wouldn’t want, tile dye anybody? 😂

That really surprises me. For whatever reason, probably because it feels like a very “medieval” spice and when I think medieval, I think of England, it seems like you should be able to buy it on every street corner there.

Here, I have to make a little effort, but I can readily find it, and not only that, I can find it from a major spice/herb company, not just some specialty/premium brand.

I love mace, it’s one of my absolute favorites.

It used to until recently be available everywhere and certainly features in Christmas dishes. It must have fallen very far out of favour to have disappeared from the shelves, tbh I don’t really understand why it’s not available 🤷‍♀️

It’s arrived already!

People who dream of living out in the sticks take note - fast delivery is great!
Only kidding but I now live on the edge of a conurbation (progress ay!) and I have to say it has it’s advantages!
I live in the woods! It's almost normal for the stand in USPS driver to say they couldn't find the house...

Ah well they say that to me too and if you saw where I lived you’d know how ridiculous that is.
I think they see it and think hmph thats a bit off route I’ll leave it here, or I’ll deliver it tomorrow!

Right! I mean, there's a mailbox with a number *like all the rest* along the route... Lazy I'd say...
