How is the corona virus affecting you?

I see on news now Florida is spiking, then they show pics of hundreds of people at the beach. So much for the warmer weather killing the virus?
Things are back to almost normal, although there are infected people about. South islands the safest place here. And I'm in the biggest city in the South Island. Pop 400k approx Chch

I thought NZ was free of infection? News outlets stated last month that you were.

Florida is run by an idiot governor, as some other states. And the people are sheep.

There won't be a second wave because the first wave isn't over (edited to add that it's one big continuous wave). I already knew that warm weather wasn't a factor in lessening the disease, since many humid and hot places were getting numerous infections in late winter and early spring.

You stay safe.

Our pm was taking credit all around the world when she should have been doing her job. The sheeple here are blinded by her outward looks. News here just admitted 54 people were released without checking, there are double digits infected, and others running around not known. It's a series of blunders from the health dept. army have been called in now as no one knows what's going on.
This coalition government are out of their depth.

Hopefully no one we know will catch it, but things have started to change dramatically in the States. From simply encouraging people to wash their hands, we now have all sporting events shut down until further notice.

For some reason, people seem to be obsessed with buying toilet paper; there are many places where those supplies are cleaned out (so to speak). We've been gradually stocking up on canned goods and dry goods. I'm hoping we will be able to still get fresh meats and vegetables.

In Michigan, Universities have already gone to on-line-only instruction. High schools and earlier are closed starting Monday for the next few weeks. However, "closed" doesn't adequately describe it. I had thought this meant that the students would get an early break for a few weeks. Instead, there are plans in place to either do Web Chats, where a live lesson will be conducted, or "packet learning", where a packet of materials will be distributed to students.

I work for Ford Motor Company, and I've had a laptop for many years. We are now being told to stay home until further notice. We are allowed to borrow monitors and docking stations, which would normally stay at work. I have worked remotely for a few hours - up to a day - at a time with just my laptop. But, I can't see trying to sustain my normal workload with just a touchpad and a small monitor.

Life goes on.

You are so lucky to still have a job.

Talked to my brother last night. He's the primary person for checking up on my parents, since he's the only one of us kids retired.

He takes this whole thing very seriously, and my parents definitely do not. When this whole thing started back in March (for us), he was checking on them every other day.
He stepped it up to every day, and we were all doing our part, bringing them food and groceries...until we realized they weren't staying home like they said they were.

At that point, I stopped bringing food to them (they were going out every day to eat, anyway) and he cut his visits back to two times a week.

Well, restrictions have loosened, they're going everywhere, no masks, and bragging that where they like to eat, the workers aren't "caught up in all this foolishness," (as they like to phrase it), aren't wearing masks and aren't doing any kind of distancing, and now numbers are spiking again, so he told them yesterday, they're basically on their own. He's not coming over for the next month, until he sees how things progress.

It sounds like he's getting a little pushback from another sibling, but I can't say that I blame him.

Went to a fire station yesterday in one of our largest clients districts. Went to two others in that district first. This station had to "check" me in, taking my temperature and asking me questions, before allowing me to service the breathing air equipment. I guess each station chief sets their own policy. Weird.

It's like that at doctors' offices around here. Since June started, we've been to three appointments (and another one today), and the procedures have all been different.

One doctor...mask was suggested, call to check in and either wait in the car or come in the waiting room, your choice.

Another doctor...no restrictions whatsoever, just the suggestion to wear a mask.

The doctor Monday...had to call to check in, wait in the car until they called to say they were ready, had to have temperature taken on entry, I had to explain why I was going in with MrsTasty - though the nurse doing all the preliminary stuff forgot to put her mask on for about 15 minutes. 😒

Hey, the thing that worries me the most about my trip to Houston in a few weeks is that I'll be around my dad all day for five days. It's sad, but I can't just choose to not think about it. He just hasn't taken this pandemic seriously enough.

My primary care doctor's office has someone in the first floor lobby stopping anyone who doesn't have a mask, and giving them one that they must wear.

At today's appointment (ENT), it was the minimum - please wear a mask and please stay six feet apart. That was it. No limiting people in the waiting area, no temperature taking.

I did have one of those "laugh or I'd cry" moments the other night watching the national news.

They did an "aw geez ain't technology great" story, showing how the airport in LA just installed a system that scans everyone automatically as they enter the terminal, taking their temp, and if they have a temp over 100.4, they pull those people to the side and give them a proper temp check.

Sounded great to me, until the airport rep went on to explain, "We're not preventing them from flying, or even telling the airline they're booked on, we're just giving the passenger the information for them to do with as they will."

🤦🏻‍♂️

Well I'm worrying about you. I know you had pneumonia not long ago and I'm sure you really really don't want to get this virus. Is there no alternative but to be with him?

He had his first eye surgery done today, and the other eye gets done in two weeks. My sister has been doing everything, and asked me to come down and help for a few days. She is an RN, so she has been working full time and taking my dad to his appointments. It's my turn.

My sister is going to give me some good masks. That'll help.

In BCV (Before Covid Virus) times, I did a lot of work in New York. But now, even if I get an assignment in NY, I can't take it. NY, NJ and CT have announced, effective midnight tonight, anyone coming into those three states from a High Covid-19 state must do a 14-day quarantine. That means Texas.

This ought to get some panties in a wad.

As of today the infection rate in America is seven times that of Europe, and the EU are considering putting the US on a no fly list. European governments are preparing for an angry, ill considered economic response from your leader.

With regard to Trump, he is doubling down on his assertion that America should slow testing. WTAF? Fewer confirmed cases will lead to less tracing, also infections will continue to climb leading to more fatalities but less recorded instances, so the mortality rate in America will appear to be the worst in the World. It defies logic.

His poll numbers are down, and he is flailing. He knows that a bad economy is historically the number one cause of one-term Presidencies in the US. Covid-19 is bad for the economy. So, people need to get back to work, back to shopping, back to traveling. He wants Covid-19 to go away, even if it just appears to go away. He's trying to cook the books.
