Italian heros/subs/grinders/hoagies et al

Do you cook the cold cuts in your Italian heros/subs/grinders/hoagies?

Uh-oh, kaneohegirlinaz has just lobbed meatballs and cheesesteaks into the fray!
I think the UK could benefit from some of America’s sandwich know how.
They aren’t sandwiches as we recognise them and we’d struggle to serve something like that. I’m not sure why, maybe there’s more than a touch of the puritanical about us 😂

Our American style pizza is definitely all our own, but I am pretty sure that Neapolitan pizza was invented in Italy., as was Margherita. Unless the Food Network programs are nothing but lies!
Even in the 60’s and 70’s the majority of Italy didn’t even know what a pizza was. There was a lot of sudden claiming of it but ultimately I’m told it’s Americans who are responsible for pizza.

Well apparently it was invented in Naples but didn't become popular there until it had taken America by storm.

From Pizza: A Global History
By Carol Helstosky

"Originally a food for the poor in eighteenth-century Naples, the pizza is a source of national and regional pride as well as cultural identity in Italy, Helstosky reveals. In the twentieth century, the pizza followed Italian immigrants to America, where it became the nation’s most popular dish and fueled the rise of successful fast-food corporations such as Pizza Hut and Domino’s. Along the way, Helstosky explains, pizza has been adapted to local cuisines and has become a metaphor for cultural exchange."

When we still lived in Hawaii, I could not get ANY of the good ingredients for a descent Italian sandwich, no matter what you called it.
Sandwiches in Hawaii are not that big of a thing, really.
Now mind you, they love their bread in Hawaii, but the Plate Lunch rules supreme!

That’s because you all invented sandwiches and when the Earl slapped that roast beef between two hunks of bread (with a little mustard), he took one bite and said, “Righto, lads, that’s the duck’s bill, that is, can’t get any better!” - and everyone there believed him, which unfortunately stunted your sandwich growth a bit.

Then, when you all showed up here in the New World, you didn’t have any beef, so they had to make do, making sandwiches with beavers and potatoes and whatnot, and that sort of individualistic “anything goes” attitude towards sandwiches took hold, and before you knew it…peanut butter and banana sandwiches.

Now that’s the kind of food history you won’t get in mainstream culinary school.

DH was just asking me if we could order Amoroso rolls online ... yes we can, but it's a minimum order of 60 rolls/case.
Now, if I could find someone here in Cowboyville to share that order with ... you don't want to keep bread/rolls frozen for too terribly long before it goes whonky.

There’s an excess, a decadence to the sandwiches that are shown. That’s not the Brit way. Why have ten slices when you can make do with one? 😂
Plus if it can’t be eaten with a knife and fork or doesn’t politely fit in your gob without making a mess it’s a no no 😂
It’s better now but eating messy food is still not high on the popularity list.

DH wanted me to add to this conversation, mayonnaise is never used on an Italian sandwich, ever!
Our Niece-in-law from Maryland, just over the state line from Philly, puts mayo-gobbles of the stuff-on her hoagie which sends shivers down DH's spine ... "NOOOOOO! Liz, stop that, it's just not right!"
