Didn't get that wild as it turned out. All afternoon was spent on the cooker, including fixing a noisy fan. I got to wear one of those headlamps favoured by proper boffins, and to use a bendy 13mm spanner. Quite chuffed with the newly clean and very quiet appliance. I've even ordered some new knobs and a replacement badge for it - it does get some abuse.

Just spotted one of the dogs photo-bombing! She permanently circles the kitchen in the hope that I have dropped something edible.
That's a very nice cooker and cooking space (and dog!).

Nice cooker/range. Is it all gas, or gas stove/hob and electric oven/cooker. A range in the US is a combination stove and oven in one piece. I prefer separate stovetop and oven, and prefer gas for the stove, and electric for the oven. I don't know if you can get that in a range.

Yes, it's gas on the top, and electric ovens.

Perfect. I had a gas oven in my first house, and it was awful at maintaining an accurate and steady temperature. I love gas stoves/hobs, but electric ovens just seem to work better.

BTW, my dog stands right by my feet, looking down at the floor, when I cook -- until about the third time I almost trip over him, and I banish him from the kitchen.

My dog follows me in the kitchen, but she's old and weak, and she gets "stuck," meaning she walks into the kitchen, which has tiles, and she's not strong enough on her feet any more to be able to turn around and walk back out. I have to tell her to get out, then she looks over her shoulder, then back at me, then over her shoulder, and I have to turn her around and send her on her way.

I put down a couple of rugs for her, but she finds whatever spot is tile, gets on that, then gets stuck. Every time.

This is our set up. We bought it from the previous owner, the oven is electric and self cleaning. The hob is bottle gas with one electric ring.

Having dogs about is useful when dropping stuff, which I do frequently.

When my ex-wife and I had the nieces for weekends (while mom and dad took a break somewhere), we would put them in their high-chairs, and they would knock half their food on the floor. Our two dogs were right there to clean up.

Yesterday I caught up with jobs I missed on Thursday. Fixed wife's dressing table, de-scaled bathroom taps, fixed loose door knob on door to back hallway, raked up leaves at back of house, collected another bucket of windfall apples and baked a cake. I now have three buckets of apples, and may need to bite the bullet and have a go at cider making. I also managed to fit in a productive visit to the indoor food market before cooking supper. Today will be spent in town relieving wife of retail management duties so that she can have a day off. I shall enjoy it.
