Sounds like a delicious menu. Give the Kommandant a crisp salute and a "many happy returns" from me!

Plans for today achieved, We walked to the Bull Inn on Penenden Heath to meet Steve's sister. We sat in the garden which has a covered section so the rain wasn't an issue. He hasn't seen her since his younger brother's funeral 4 years ago. I think she was upset by how much he has changed (Steve has dementia for those who don't know). Steve seemed to enjoy it. We ate a rather dull pub meal but it didn't matter. She took a Covid test before meeting us which was good as she could give him some big hugs.
Wonderful! That´s a very pleasant pub - went there with my mum about 3 months ago.
As you say - rather dull food, but that seems to be general, with so many pubs serving "same old, same old" dictated by head office.

Sounds like a wonderful day, even with "dull" food. It is nice that your partner can still enjoy a day out. I hope that lasts a long time.

I will. She will laugh I think?

I hope so, but if she doesn’t, you’ll be the one in trouble, not me!

We’ve noticed the last few times we visited. It was getting harder and harder to find an independent pub.

The last time we were staying in London, there were three cute-as-could-be pubs within easy walking distance of the hotel. Walked to the first one, looked quaint and traditional inside…plastic picture menus (I hate those).

Second pub…same thing, same menu, and same at the third! Turns out, they were all Fuller’s pubs - the interiors were all unique in some ways, but the exact same corporate-dictated menu at each one.

Today:
DH & I will go to the market and (curbside) pick up Mom's groceries (I ordered them online 2 days ago)
Deliver said groceries to Mom's apartment - put them away for her too
Take Mom out to lunch at our favorite Asian Bistro
That's a total of 1 1/2 hours of driving, busy day ahead (thank goodness the price of gasoline has come down)
But this is better than Mom living a 9 1/2 hour, one way drive away from us, which why we both made the decision to move her closer to us.

We went to Buckingham Palace this afternoon, just on a whim. Disabled son needed to get out, so it was a good excuse for a "road trip". Victoria station, a quick walk down Buckingham Palace Rd, and on to St James´s Park . Bloomin´eck, hundreds and thousands of people trying to get close to the Palace to leave flowers and messages. It took us nearly an hour to get 50 yards away, but then we just gave up and went for a pint.
There were flowers everywhere. Never got to see the front of the palace, but in the park, at the gates, there were floral tributes all over the place. Very moving.

We just had a TV emergency - all of a sudden, neither the TV remote nor the Apple TV remote would work the volume settings.

Since I could see the little light flashing on the Apple TV box, I knew the signal was getting to the TV, and I put new batteries in the TV remote, still didn’t work, so I deduced it was probably something with the volume module on the TV, except that the buttons on the TV itself worked. 🤔

Last-ditch Hail Mary attempt - I reset the Apple TV remote, and now at least that one’s working again.

Crap, I was looking forward to buying a new TV when we got home from holiday.
