Yes. But she's been calling them both the same thing for as long as I've known her, lol.
Most restaurants use shepherd's pie insteaad of the correct term cottage pie whem beef is used. Only place I've ever seen it correctly used was an Irish pub, which served both. Even one of our favorite Paul Prudhome recipes is misnamed as shepherd's pie since it uses ground beef.

Maybe it's because lamb is much less used in general in the US. I don't think the misnomer would happen in the UK. At least, not in a restaurant or pub.

I don’t think it would happen here either but I once made the mistake of unthinkingly announcing shepherds pie when it was cottage pie (you’d think I’d remember what meat I’d bought 😂) and it was greeted with horrified exclamations as if I’d committed some sort of serious sin but no, they were just expecting Shepherds Pie and how could you get them mixed up?! 😂

I feel I have been playing chicken with Christmas and maybe about to lose 😂
I have prepared no food for tomorrow (not even written a menu or done the planning past ordering some random stuff), wrapped no presents (not even sure where or what they are), not done any housework and not yet picked up the Marks n Sparks turkey order and there’s a distinct possibility they’ll ring to tell me my bike’s ready for collection today which is on the other side of Bristol city 40 mins away on a good day let alone Christmas Eve.

In conclusion, my experiment to going back to doing things as they arise (rather than planning ahead) in the fashion of a 20 year old sucks! I will be returning to military style execution forthwith

Working (though I’m expecting g to be given half the day off, though I’m also on-call, so not quite the gift it usually is), probably having a salad tonight, then festive appetizers while we open our stocking stuffers later this evening.

I’ll also be doing some prep work for tomorrow (mainly salting down the roast, making the Yorkshire pud batter).

Slice meats!

Woke up this morning and confirmed I’m still testing positive for covid. So, we’ve postponed the family celebrations until next week. My parents will still have my brother and his wife over for dinner so at least they won’t be alone the day of.

I did catch it at a rather inconvenient time, but you win some, you lose some.

On the “positive” side (sorry), you’ll get two Christmases!

Sorry to hear that, but sounds as if you got a very degraded version of Covid - thank goodness. Never mind; another family gathering to look forward to!

It’s definitely not as bad as I feared. My friend currently has it and was sick for 10 days, terrible congestion, etc. but I’ve been far luckier. I had a sore throat and cough, but never got really congested. I spent 2 days in bed (mostly actually sleeping), and the only thing that’d still lingering a bit is the phlegm in my throat (and I’m pretty sure that’s why I’m still testing positive).

I’ll re-test again in a few days and cross my fingers it’s negative then. It’s been less than a week since the initial positive test so maybe I should be more patient!

I tested positive for more than 3 weeks. Even my doctor was fed up with it and eventually requested I attended the surgery to check on my lungs and asthma despite still being positive (my asthma was playing up big time).

Sending you best wishes to a speedier recovery.

We had covid for Christmas last year (or maybe it was the year before). It sucks. Get well soon!
