Plans for today (2024)

Couldn't make up my mind what to make for Christmas dinner until this morning. I asked DH several times yesterday to pick between braised lamb shanks with risotto or lobster tails but he said either one, so I chose lamb shanks. They're thawing right now but we won't eat until 8 or later (it's just us) so no big deal.

I've got to clean up the kitchen and dining room, mostly the floors. Nephew and his wife came for dinner last night with their 7 month old baby. She loved my homemade pumpernickel bread...

“Back to work today, you slackers!” - at least that’s how I read the numerous end-of-year emails from senior leadership at the office.
This sounds so weird to me - Boxing Day (Dec 26th) is a statutory holiday here in Canada.

I’m incredibly lucky - because I work at a school, I don’t have to go back until Jan 6th.

I'm behind on making bread this year and it's almost over. I've a long, 3 days, fermenting dough in the fridge now. Using sourdough starter in lieu of whatever the yeast was called for. It's growing!

I have a lot on today owing to avoiding certain jobs all week 😬 and I still don’t want to do any of it. I think I’d better sought something nice for lunch to add something good to the day!
Been awake for a while and it’s now 6.50am. I think it‘s time to eat that frog!

Anyone else “Eat that frog”??!
Only the legs and they're kinda pricey! 😋

The fence posts set (in concrete) overnight, and I completed the fence. Not a long section. It is behind my garage, and separates my lot from the rent house lot next door (photo taken from rent house side). Galvanized steel posts set in concrete, cedar lumber, coated screws (no nails).

BTW, the Steelers beat the Ratbirds, and clinched a place in the playoffs. :woot:

Sounds and looks like you know how to build a fence! All of ours are barbed wire around here...

I was planning smoked salmon scrambled eggs.
Got up early to slice up the remainder of the smoked salmon ready to make smoked salmon scrambled egg with the scrappy pieces.
I patiently waited in the kitchen (aka wasting time on the internet 😂) for the son who had requested it to get up.
He flew in fully dressed with a face like thunder - he had just been rung by his boss, he was supposed to be at work on the other side of Bristol (about 40mins away) and hour ago 😬

I now have a very large amount of scrambled eggs and smoked salmon ready to go and not enough bouche’s for it to go in!

New Years thread imminent?
As soon as I get my menu set.

I need to run a few things by MrsT, and when I got up this morning, she was gone! Didn’t hear her leave, don’t know where she went, so my assumption can only be…she’s out buying me a late Christmas present. 🤷🏻‍♂️ 😆

It’s the only logical explanation!

Well, she was, in a sense. She had to go out early for bloodwork for an upcoming appointment, and she stopped at Target (fancy Walmart, for those not familiar) to pick these up:

Target has some deal with the UK, because lately, they’ve been the US presence of M&S, and they also sell fashion items from Liberty.

Well, everything M&S Christmassy is 50% off, and that’s a projection tree filled with shortbread…but it doesn’t work. Apparently, the lighting mechanism has a shelf life (it’s not chargeable or replaceable), and a short one at that. I took the little light module out, took into into a black room, and to say it barely musters a glow is being extremely generous. The little yellow light at the end turns a barely-perceptible slightly darker yellow, and definitely not enough to project anything except disappointment.

But hey, we’ve got another packet of biscuits and another box of chocolates though!
