Every year at this time there is a raffle at work, this year the money is going to the children's oncology dept at our local General Hospital. We don't buy tickets instead we give a donation, my boss asked if it was because we don't gamble, no it is because we don't give to receive. A few people think we are strange because of this and I don't understand why. Some make a huge deal about 'giving to charity' then as soon as the raffle takes place they are at the front almost wetting themselves with excitement at the prospect of what they may have won. Humans are strange creatures at times :o_o:
You are right. But I'm afraid I like a good gamble. I used to be addicted to the horses. Casinos I haven't tried. I know it would go badly!

The good thing is they opened casinos near us after we quit smoking. Because the casinos are on Native American land, they allow smoking. The smell irritates both of us. So we don't gamble.

It's cool, its overcast and its drizzling. The only thing that says this is not the UK is the fact that it is 14C and still summer!

And I have no electricity and can't find anything to light the stove with! Where he has hidden the gas lighter is beyond me and I have no phone to ask him!

When I first met TVC he was a smoker, couldn't kiss him after he had smoked, didn't like the smell on his hands either. He quit over 10 years ago and that was when he realised just how unpleasant the smell really is. Over here smoking is banned in all restaurants, pubs, stores etc... so when we go to another country that hasn't banned smoking it takes some getting used to.

We don't play the lottery. Folks here make a big hoo ha about 'in it to win it'. Every year they plough in £2.00 or more a week and at this time every year they cash in their winnings, it is usually about £10.00-£15.00.

My sister sold her pub in Reading about one year before the smoking ban.

Lucky, lucky, lucky?

We gave up with the lottery - just put the money into premium bonds. Chances of winning are equally slim but at least you can get you money back

I haven't gambled since I was 17 years old (and that was a while ago). The little money I have is subject to bank interest rates which at the present time are virtually zero.

My daghter has done that. She put 2K in a year ago. So far, zilch! Have you won anything?

I've had a one pound premium bond now for must be 60 years. Never won owt.

However, I'm not sure whether they know that I've moved house since.

Every week we put a pound coin or 2 into a pink piggy bank, this pays for a deposit on a weekend holiday, or a special meal or whatever. This way we benefit from putting it away rather than give it to Camelot or whoever runs the lottery to line their pockets.

We thought the same but eventually decided on premium bonds as you still get to keep the capital and you may [:whistling:] even win - we've had a few small payouts and it does beat the pathetic interest rates.
